It’s that time of year again. The kids are erratic, the house is a mess and you’re stressing your brains out with presents. Yes, Welcome to Christmas; a time of merriment and joy. At least for the ones who are younger than 18.

As a parent or caregiver, it is automatically your job to ensure that THIS Christmas is the best Christmas ever; just like last year. Fear not however, for I have some tips on how you can achieve this far-off reality.

Make Christmas Traditions Real

To get the Christmas spirit filling the house and really overflowing out of everybody’s socks: do not skip on the traditions! There is nothing more disappointing to a child than not having a stocking hung up by the fireplace or a star on top of the Christmas tree. Christmas traditions may seem like small silly things, but they bring everyone together each year. Traditions remind us of how special this time is and helps us get in tune with the mood of Christmas!.

When talking to the kids, make frequent references to Santa Claus and his sleigh. Place little bells around the house that ring in the wind and are sure to get kids thinking of the big day. Teach the children the old favorite Christmas songs too. If you are a budding musician in the group, get out the guitar and sing the songs to them (silent night works best).

Plan holiday meals well in advance. If you have no idea how to cook a turkey but want to anyway, do NOT leave it until the last minute. It will bomb. Instead ask an experienced cook months in advance and practice each step; that way it is bound to turn out just right.

Finally, if anything does NOT go your way, do not fret. Do as Santa does; laugh and be merry no matter what and everyone will join in with you. There is no wrong thing to do at Christmas except nothing.

Christmas should be a time of happiness, togetherness and joy. If your family (or whoever you are spending Christmas with) is happy, then it is bound to make you smile too.
