Sarah Palin has had a huge influence on pop culture in the United States. Regardless of whether you like her or not, she is definitely someone who is very famous. The Bus system is Las Vegas is pretty good, especially compared to many other larger cities, however it still has it's flaws. By looking at Sarah Palin and her views, we can actually learn a lot about the Las Vegas bus systems.

Forced Change Is Often Necessary

For over 40 years the Las Vegas bus system was operated by Las Vegas Transit. This company was the epitome of dumb. They had crazy bus routes that were not effective. Some areas were under-served, while other areas and numerous buses criss-crossing and overlapping the same area.

The Las Vegas Bus System under Las Vegas Transit had even been named the worst bus system in the United States. Some of the Las Vegas Transit managers were accused of bribery. We don't know for sure that they were dirty, but we do not that they did an awful job of attempting to run a bus system.

Sarah Palin once said "I came to office promising major ethics reform to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is a law. While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over-the-top. I put it on eBay."

Sarah Palin would have handled the incompetent Las Vegas Bus System the same way it was eventually done, but would have done it much sooner. After over 40 years The Las Vegas Transit company was forced to turn over their buses and buildings. The Las Vegas bus system was then operated by the Citizens Area Transit(CAT). CAT did a much better job with the Las Vegas Bus System and were allowed to operate it between 1992 to 2008.

Sarah Palin said "Our government needs to adopt a pro-market agenda that doesn't pick winners and losers, but it invites competition and it levels the playing field for everyone." That is also pretty much what happened to the CAT management of the Las Vegas bus system. CAT was doing a great job, but felt they could do much better. CAT re-branded the company as RTC Transit.

The change to RTC was much more than a simple name change, RTC was beginning to make major changes that made their bus riding customers both happy as well as upset. When gas prices were booming out of control, RTC had to drastically increase the fare charge to ride the bus. People protested, however RTC Transit was allowed to go through with the change as it was deemed necessary. People could have boycotted the bus system, but even with the increased fare charges it was still a great value. Sarah Palin believes in a free market system, and this proved true in the way that the RTC fare increase was handled. The Bus System Is Continually Improved.
