What Style Roman Blind is Best?
Many people these days are interested in decorating parts of their home with Roman Blinds. Not only do they look great, they are also fairly cheap, depending of course on what they're made from, which is important if you're re-decorating, or setting up your first home.
For those not sure what a Roman blind is, simply put it is a blind that is mounted on a board at the top of the window. Cords attached to the side of the curtain make the material the blind is made out of fold up, accordion style. There's a wide choice of blinds available in almost every pattern and color you can imagine, and you can even buy them made from different materials as well. This makes it very easy to mix and match them with your existing furnishings and décor. The better looking blinds are generally made from a thicker material, one that will fold up well and still retain its shape.
Roman blinds are useful for highlighting a particular window, such as a bay window or a feature window. It is quite possible, and acceptable to mix and match Roman shades with regular fabric curtains or venetian blinds, especially if they're used to highlight a feature window.
Some of the blinds are opaque and don't let much, if any light into the room when they're down. You can also actually buy blackout Roman shades as well, which will pretty much completely eliminate all light coming into the room. There are also very nice translucent blinds, partially opaque, which keep out some of the light but let a little in. These can really add a nice atmosphere to the room, depending on the color of the blind and thus the shade of the light flowing into the room. I think the nicest I've seen was a lovely golden colored translucent blind that flooded the room with a beautiful golden glow. It was awesome! I have even seen a transparent Roman blind which was situated over a window with a gorgeous view. The muted view, as seen through the blind, added a nice touch to the overall modernistic décor of that particular room.
So, when you're thinking about installing Roman blinds, remember that they're not only useful in doing their job of filtering out light and sun from your room, but they can also be used to add to the overall décor and appearance of your room. They're easy to find online or in curtain shops too so availability is never a problem.
