What Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) really is

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 3

Voice over Internet Protocol or Voice over IP (VoIP) is a technology or a software protocol that allows you to make calls over the internet. It allows you to communicate with someone either through voice call or video calls via the internet. You can also send voice SMS or text an SMS to any line with a VoIP.

You can use VoIP to call someone using a normal phone such as landline or mobile phone. VoIP calls can be made to a CDMA or GSM line at a low-cost. This is possible because when you make a VoIP call it goes through the same channels as your internet data and since you are making the call over the internet the cost is reduced. VoIP telephone services requires a little amount of money to set up and maintain. In most cases all you need to do is to get a VoIP phone and software program to install on your computer. Once you have installed the software you might have gotten from the VoIP service provider on your computer all you need to do is to activate it and in no time you can start to make your calls to anyone anywhere in the world with it.

With VoIP phone it is also possible to send voice messages from one person to another just like it is done on a normal phone. You can either choose to chat with someone via video call or voice call and you can do this by inviting the person to chat with you. But such a person must have access to that kind of technology to be able to communicate with you. And in most cases you can communicate over a VoIP network for free.

There are many companies on the internet today that offer VoIP services. Most of these companies charge for their services but there are some that are free one of such is Skype, which is very popular among internet users these days. The technology is being talked about so much now that it looks like in the near future people will no longer have to pay to make calls as it will become free for all. By using broadband internet you get to make calls to people over VoIP network. Since it is easier to use the network with any internet connection any where the technology is looking to be a viable option for communication in the future. All you need for this type of communication is just your internet connection and the software that connects you to the server and then relay your messages (either voice or data) to the next person on the other end of the ‘terminal’. When using VoIP you don't have to worry yourself about International roaming fee or any other charges telecom companies charge you to make calls on their network.  It's no doubt Voice over Internet Protocol is the way of the future for communication.
