More Hours Needed
What would you do with more hours in a day? Every day you probably feel the same thing, if only there was more time to do what the things you really wanted to do, but the things that you really have to do keep getting in the way.
It seems that these days people are busier than ever, but now is not the time to surrender to the things that are gobbling up your time. Now is the time to look carefully at yourself to decide what is important. Once you figure that out you will find joy, a sense of accomplishment, and even those lost hours you have searched for.
You need to figure this out now before it's too late. Stop the madness and get to what's important in your life. You can do this.
What Is It You Want?
Take a look within yourself. What is it that you want to do but don't because you don't have the time? For some, it may be spending more time with friends or family. For others, a hobby a craft, or something around the house. Perhaps the time you seek is to be still, pray, or exercise. Whatever your desire, there is one question that you have to ask yourself.
Why don't you do it?
The answer is predictable. You don't have time. The kids keep you too busy. You have to study, work, sleep, or do any number of other seemingly unimportant chores instead. It is very easy to come up with this list. It is much harder to wipe them away.
The first thing you need to do is figure out what you really want. Once you do, write it down and keep it with you or put it somewhere visible. This represents the thing that you most wish to do if only there were more hours in a day.
It is the important thing in your life. It deserves your time and your next task is to figure out how to make that time.
Are You Certain You Can't Have It?
Now that you know what you want you need to determine if your reason for not having it is reasonable. Don't judge too quickly. Of course you will think it is. You need to think just a bit longer.
What is it that is taking up your time? What exactly do you do with your spare time? How important are those things? Have you ever really considered what would happen if you didn't do them?
Here is an easy example. The biggest waste of time in most people's lives is watching television. We watch television because we enjoy it. We think it is relaxing. We are, after all, spending time with a spouse, a family, or just getting some alone time. That is good, right? Well, maybe not.
The next time you sit in front of a television ask yourself how good it makes you feel. Really think about it. Is this is good way to spend your limited time? If you turned the television off and went off to do the thing you said you really want to do, would you feel better, more energized, or an added sense of accomplishment? If so, you are spending your time on the wrong thing.
Perhaps you can combine two things into one. If you truly do enjoy watching a show but never get to your workout to lose that excess weight that gets you down, why not lose weight watching TV? If you rethink how to watch and do it from a treadmill, you can essentially add an hour to your day.
Maybe you can save time by working smarter. If you find that weeknights get used up in the kitchen, why not make a few meals on the weekend and freeze them for cooking during the week? Instead of cutting, mixing, and chopping every day you can do it once. Then, you can use the time that dinner is in the oven to do that thing you want to do.
The next time you are confronted with a choice between something you are currently doing and the thing you would do if you had more time in the day, consider picking your one thing. When you do, take special not of how that makes you feel. Chances are it is a good feeling.
Make It Happen
There are all kinds of excuses these days. My kid needs to get to practice. I need to go to the store. I have to walk the dog. I'm working late. I'm too tired. If you allow these things to rule your life it won't matter how many hours there are in a day. Failure to allow time for what you hold dear will always be your problem if you let it.
You have to make the time to do that which is important to you. If you don't, the world is not going to make the time for you. It is under your control. Treat that time as you have treated all these other things. Make one of them move out of the way for you. You are in control.
If you change your way of thinking to put your most important things in the proper priority, you will be amazed at how you can create more hours in a day.
