What are the Top 10 Best Must Buy PS3 Video Games for Christmas 2011?

By Edited Jul 19, 2016 0 0

10 PS3 Games you NEED to have this Christmas (2011)

Choosing the best of anything at Christmas time can be an increasingly daunting task, year after year, and the wide range and quality of PS3 games on offer this year has made the process of awesome game selection especially difficult. Passionate gamers certainly aren’t complaining about being spoiled by excessive choice, however, that’s still definitely a resounding attribute of this year’s video game selection. Everything about PS3 video games has improved in recent months, ranging from on-screen graphics, to ploys, to high-tech sharing mechanisms gamer-to-gamer. Here, from 10 to 1, are my top 10 PS3 must-buy video games for Christmas 2011.

Note: I LOVE video games. I REALLY love video games. With exception to one or two of these games that have yet to be released this year, I have personally played all of the remainder of these games and can recommend them highly. For the games I have not played, because they have yet to be released, I have kept a firm pulse on the degree of anticipation that other gamers are experiencing and conveying in open forums online. I will provide you with links, for every single game, so that you can personally read reviews, and make your buying decision accordingly.

While the construction of a list of this nature is a highly subjective endeavour, I believe that you’ll find my list to be really quite similar to the 2011 lists of several excessively paid think tanks....with a few surprises throughout, of course. ENJOY!

#10 - Resistance 3

A pretty stock science fiction first person shooter video game, Resistance 3 is a fairly safe option for any PS3 gamer looking to engage themselves in a fun, action-packed, game this Christmas. The game features PlayStation Move support and Stereoscopic 3D, which can only be a good thing. It’s relatively new to the market, with just being released on September 6th, and it has gotten rave reviews from some groups, with the general consensus being that it’s a visually gorgeous, crowd-pleaser of a game. Quite familiar with the Resistance series of games myself, I was certainly impressed by both the engaging storyline, as well as, the quality of graphics I had come to expect from this flourishing series of games. As with any video game, you will find that this game has a diverse set of reviews, on Amazon, which even still err significantly towards a 5 star rating on Amazon.

Following hot on the heels of ‘Arkham Asylum’ (2009), a game that swept the video game industry off its feet, Arkham City is one of the most eagerly awaited PS3 games this season. It goes on general release in the US and worldwide in October. Expect lots of action, the return of favourite characters and a challenging game with glitzy new graphics, just in time for Christmas.

#8 - The Last Guardian

Gamers are really hoping that this one is ready before the end of the year. Sony recently confirmed that the game will now ship sometime during the holidays in 2011 in both North America and Europe. Ico, the Japanese company that is its creator, is really well-respected for game development, especially for the PS3. Their first two games - ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (PS2), are thought by many to be some of the best video games ever created. While gamers have held Ico to a very high standard of game production and development, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that the high anticipation of very experienced gamers will cause this game to be an absolutely huge hit among many.

#2 - Modern Warfare 3 (MW3)

This, believe it or not, is the eighth game in the COD (Call of Duty, although true gamers ‘should’ know what that acronym means already) series. We’ve come a long way, folks. The upcoming MW3 will be out on the 8th of November, in ample time for Christmas. It will run at 60 frames per second, minimum, and it will be very impressive. Its existence was leaked back in May, and since then the hype has been mounting and mounting. The game also features a new Survival Mode - featuring one to two players fighting rows of enemies with each row getting more difficult. The game engine is reported to use the same engine has MW2 which gamers are on the fence about.
