The Best Classic Authors for Boys
A large number of quality novels have been written over the years that were geared towards young boys. Many classical authors have dedicated many volumes to kid’s literature. Below are some of the best authors that focused on literature for kids.
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 – 1894). Stevenson is best known for his classic story, “Treasure Island”. This exciting pirate adventure story tells of battles between treasure seekers and a band of pirates and mutineers. Additionally, Stevenson wrote “Kidnapped”, another pirate story. He also wrote the classic science fiction story “The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde.
Jules Verne (1828 – 1905). Verne wrote a series of novels called “The Extraordinary Voyages”. This series tells fantastic stories of travels in the jungles, oceans, and even outer space. His most famous work is perhaps “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, but he also wrote “Mysterious Island”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “From the Earth to the Moon”, and “Around the World in 80 Days”.
HG Wells (1866 – 1946). Wells most famous work is “The War of the Worlds” which depicts a war between the powerful Martian machines and the Earth’s defending armies. He also wrote “The Time Machine”, “The Invisible Man”, “The Island of Dr. Moreau” and “The First Men in the Moon”.
JRR Tolkien (1892 – 1973). Without a doubt, Tolkien is best known for his fantasy stories about the Middle Earth and the strange beings that inhabit it. Dwarves, Wizards, Hobbits, Elves, Orcs, Trolls and Man all battle for control of Middle Earth in a typical good vs. evil story. The first book, the Hobbit, introduces us to Middle Earth. The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy tells the story of large battles between the powers of good, vs. the powers of evil led by the evil Sauron.
Jack London (1876 – 1916). London’s finest works are without a doubt, “The Call of the Wild” and “White Fang”. Both stories are about dogs and the adventures they have in the wilds of Alaska.
C.S. Lewis (1898 – 1963). Lewis wrote a series of books about Narnia, a mystical land inhabited by many strange creatures. His “Chronicles of Narnia” series of seven books tells of four youngsters who travel to the strange lands and the many adventures they have in their travels.
Alexandre Dumas (1802 – 1870). Dumas wrote the d’Artagnan trilogy, telling the story of a brave group of musketeers in the service of the King of France. His other most famous stories include “The Count of Monte Cristo” and the Christmas story “The Nutcracker”.
