Lung cancer is when something goes wrong in the lungs and causes a tumor to grow that is malignant, which means cancer. A tumor of this sort can grow in a very aggressive manner and can also spread to other parts of the body if the cells metastasis, which means they invade the bloodstream or lymph nodes and rid those systems to affect other body parts and grow additional tumors.

The most common sites it can spread to are the liver, brain, bones and the adrenal glands. If someone is suspected of developing lung cancer, then they will benefit from knowing what are the symptoms of lung cancer before it has spread and afterwards if it does get to other areas in the body.

  • A cough that doesn’t get relieved
  • Chest, back or shoulder pain that is worse when the person breathes
  • Wheezing and shortness of breath

  • Problems swallowing
  • Neck of face swelling
  • Unexplained loss of weight or appetite
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Recurring respiratory illnesses
  • Clubbed toes or fingers
  • Bulging fingernails

If it has metastasized to the other areas of the body, it may also show symptoms like:

  • Pain in the bones
  • Weakness in the legs or arms
  • Back pain
  • Seizures
  • Double or blurred vision
  • Unexplained headaches
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Jaundice or yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Enlarged lymph nodes

One problem is that in about a quarter of the people who have lung cancer, there are not any symptoms. This is because when you wonder what are the symptoms of lung cancer and why they don’t get them, it is because the tumors are small, but still deadly.

If someone starts to notice odd symptoms like the ones mentioned above, or even just feels a little strange or off, then it is a good idea to see your doctor. Even if you think you are being paranoid, only the doctor can confirm or deny if you are suffering from lung cancer or some other issue.
