What distinguishes designer shoes from their rivals?

By Edited Dec 22, 2015 0 0

For some people, buying designer shoes isn't something they simply do for fun – it's an activity they couldn't cope without. In a sense it is a menage a toi, an intense and loving relationship involving a woman and her two favourite shoes.

British actress Keira Knightley is quoted as saying: "I see a pair of shoes I adore, and it doesn’t matter if they have them in my size. I buy them anyway." And really that encapsulates the essence of the relationship between women and designer shoes. It's about the way they make you feel, the sense of elation when you find some in your size and the joy you experience when you get them home and discover they will go perfectly with a number of outfits in your wardrobe – just as you thought they would.

Of course a pair of designer shoes doesn't just make you feel something special, they let you say something too. Put simply, by slipping on a pair of specially designed peep toe heels you are making a statement and letting your shoes do the talking. They’re saying something about your personality, your intentions and what message you're trying to convey to others. The power wielded by a pair of designer shoes is actually quite incredible when you stop to think about it.

Not literally though!

Shoe designer Stuart Weitzman once said: "Nothing has been invented yet that will do a better job than heels at making a good pair of legs look great, or great ones look fabulous." And this is one of the key features that distinguishes a classy designer heel from something that has been mass produced. It is that feeling of decadence you get when you slip it on. It's the feel of something special - something that has been carefully crafted by an expert.

And thankfully, it is not just the stars that get to enjoy the feel of a good pair of shoes. No longer are designer stilettoes just for the elite in society. While of course you are always going to have one off creations that are out of the financial reach of anyone other than the rich and famous, women have far more choice these days when it comes to affordable fashion. And the internet has done wonders to make shoe shopping quick, easy and still deliciously enjoyable. Buying designer shoes online is a simple process and also means you can browse stock belonging to lots of different designers quickly and easily.

There are some important things to remember if you're a shoe aficionado though. For starters, make sure you look after shoes that you've bought by asking advice on how to care for them properly. Make sure you don't wear the same pair of shoes too many days in a row as this will result in them losing their shape more quickly. Always remember to look after your feet! They can't be replaced and if you've spent an evening in high heels then consider massaging the soles of your feet with a tennis ball to help relieve any aches and pains.
