Developing Iphone Games? Here's What You Need To Know

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Motivation is key

So you want to develop iPhone games? [5959]Great! Do you have what it takes? The most important ingredient is MOTIVATION. Have none of that? Not only can you forget about developing games, but you can also forget about doing any kind of project! If you are not dedicated, forget it! Why is motivation key? If you don't have it, then you will not find the time to do it. It is as simple as that.

Where do I find the time?

Well, if you prefer to sit in front of the tv most of your free time, then you need to set your priorities straight.

So, are you encouraged to develop some games? Good! Finding the time to dedicate is not THAT hard. Set priorities and decide what is really important to you. Is it better to work hard now and enjoy the time later? That is my model. I work a day job from 9:00am till 6:00pm every day. I am a family man with 3 young kids that require my attention as a parent. I set myself a time every night at 9:00pm, after kids are already in bed, and I dedicate myself for 2-4 hours a night (!). One thing to remember is that if you are a family person like myself, your family comes first. I discussed this with my wife who is encouraging me and understand the time I need to spend. Maybe as a start you should work every other day so you have a day 'break' in between. I try to utilize Sundays (with wife's permission of course) to work on a specific task. To be honest, my brain works better during day time, so my productivity is better. In one day I can accomplish what I'd normally do at night spanning across 3 or 4 days. This is just the nature of things.

What drives me to develop?

This is an important question. Is it a hobby? Is it money? Fame? Passion? The reason you want to pay attention to this, is that if it's passion that drives you, you will find the will and time to dedicate and commit yourself. If it's money (and there is nothing wrong with that), the only thing that might put you off is that you won't see immediate results. It is in our human nature to want to see results almost instantly. This can happen with games, but only after you release a game to the App Store (DUH!).

So, there you have it. If you read this and still feel motivated - I'm very happy as I did my job right.
