Google voice is another amazing service which is offered through Google for free. At the moment Google Voice is available to U.S. residents by invite only.
That probably did not answer the main question. What is Google Voice?
It is a free service that will assign you a U.S. telephone number - absolutely free - Now you may be wondering, why do I need another number?
Wouldn't it be nice if you could give someone your cell phone number without actually revealing it? Google Voice lets you do just that. You can give friends and family your new Google number; when they call that number, other phones that you have set up will ring instead, it could be your house phone, cell phone, or both!
Google voice allows you to automatically decline calls from certain numbers, sending them straight to the voicemail.
Google Voice allows you to record phone calls. It allows you store voicemails online, and it generates transcripts of your voicemails!
Google Voice allows you to call from your associated telephone to any number within the U.S. for free. This is great no more long distance charges!
Google Voice also offers very, very low international rates in case you need to call overseas.
The service also allows you to send free SMS, forward phone calls, and personalize your voicemail greeting.
I signed up for their service as soon as I received the invite and have not been disappointed.
My favorite feature without a doubt is Free Long Distance telephone calls, and the fact that I can give anyone my number without the fear of being targeted by telemarketers.
I give Google Voice two thumbs up.
