Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi
What is Body Flow?
Body Flow is a 55 minute pre-choreographed mind/body class that incorporates elements of yoga, pilates, and Tai Chi. The class is pre-choreographed to music and is distributed by Les Mills International, which is based in New Zealand. Les Mills International distributes many pre-choreographed workout classes, including Body Pump and Body Step.
Body Flow classes are performed to music and build flexibility and strength using powerful and calming poses, stretches, and breathing techniques. The class structure implements elements of yoga, pilates, and Tai Chi throughout. At the end of a Flow class, a person will leave feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a series of stretches, moves, and poses create a holistic workout that is meant to bring the body into a state of harmony and balance. The class format lasts 45 minutes, and always ends with an additional 10 minutes of relaxation and medition.
The class will begin with a flowing Tai Chi warmup to build into the pilates and yoga sequences that strengthen and tone key muscle groups. The poses and stretches create suppleness and flexibility.

Choreography and Launches
New Body Flow releases, consisting of new music and choreography, are released to health clubs and instructors on a quarterly basis. Instructors memorize the pre-choreographedexercise class via DVD, audio CD, and choreography notes. Health clubs are encouraged to throw a quarterly "launch party" when new choreography is released, to use this as an opportunity to create excitement about the classes.Â
Instructors are certified in the program by attending an Instructor Certification Module, which take place periodically around the world throughout the year. At certification modules, instructors are taught proper form and technique, as well as motivational tips and Les Mills culture. Instructors are paid by the health club or gym that they work for. Health clubs that offer Body Flow classes are required to pay a fee to Les Mills International to become a registered host.Â
