What is Motivation?

Have you ever wondered why there are some people that no matter what opportunities come their way they accomplish nothing.  These are the people that seem to always have something to complain about even when things are going okay.  The problem that most of them seem to have is a lack of motivation.

            What is motivation?  Motivation is something that stimulates you to take action or causes you to do something.  Some people seem to be naturally self motivated.  They will look at every challenge that comes their way as an opportunity to excel.  For them the glass is always half full and curiosity keeps them going.  These are the people that are always smiling and trying to help others.  They are motivated by an innate ability to keep life’s journey full of promise.

            If you are wondering what makes them different from you let’s discuss motivation and how to get motivated.

  1.  Set goals for yourself.   A person without goals is a person that lives day by day and lets life pass them by rather ordinarily.  Everyone should be striving to enrich their lives in some way.  This could include learning another language, a new skill or traveling new places. 
  2. Read books on success and self improvement.  There are thousands of books out there about how to succeed in life.  If you want to be successful in a particular area but need more knowledge, get a book and start reading.  Many great people in numerous areas are self taught and you can be one of them.  Also, books on self improvement can help you change the way you feel about yourself and the direction you want your life to take.
  3. Get up early.  Wake up early and the morning and take time for yourself.  This is the time that is just for you.  You can spend that time exercising, meditating, or just relaxing.  The importance of this time is doing something special for you.  Everyone needs to have a few moments that are dedicated to their personal well-being. 
  4. Alter your habits.  Throughout life we have all been written on with some bad habits that are not conducive to living our best life.  By acknowledging our bad habits and making decisions to exchange them for more positive and productive habits we change ourselves for the better. 
  5. Treat people that way you want to be treated.  The most important rule in motivation is the opportunity we have to impact others.  Daily we should treat people the way we would like to be treated and we will see the goodness of others unfold right in front of us.  If you show people your very best that is normally what you will get in return.  Remember, we reap what we’ve sown.   The more goodness that you see in others and their gratitude for your kindness the more motivated you will be to continue this behavior.

What is motivation?  Motivation is the driving force that helps all of us to move in a direction of accomplishing something.  The five discussion points above shows you some things that you can do to become motivated.  If your life is not following the path that you want it to, do something about it and do it now.  Start changing your life today and GET MOTIVATED!!!
