Pyridostigmine bromide

Pyridostigmine Bromide is a drug that goes by the commercial brand name Mestinon or Regonol. Pyridostigmine bromide is a cholinesterase inhibitor that was originally used as an agent to be given to combat soldiers prior to combat situations where they may experience exposure to the nerve agent 'Soman'. This drug was primarily used during the first Gulf War.

These days, Pyridostigmine bromide is more typically used to help treat people suffering from orthostatic hypotension. The drug can be taken both orally or via intravenous and is capable of also delivering the following side effects:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal Cramps
  • Increased Salivation
  • Increased Bronchial Secretions
  • Tearing
