When you decide to start hitting the gym, the urge to take supplements are going to be on your mind for faster results and a better body.  One of the most highly suggested supplements out there recommended is protein; which is important in the process of building and developing muscle. What Composes Soy Protein

     If you happen to remember what your science teacher told you about proteins then skip to the next section.  For those of you who don’t, remember that proteins are composed of monomers called amino acids.  These amino acids are composed of tiny molecules of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and the all important Nitrogen (which tells us it’s now a protein).  These amino acids will join to form what we call polypeptide chains.  We get soy protein from soybeans!

Why do Bodybuilders/Athletes take Soy Protein

While it is not the most highly consumed protein of the bunch, it does have it beneficial properties other proteins may not have.  First off, it is very easy to digest so you don’t have to run to the bathroom 30 minutes after consuming a protein shake.  It also doesn’t contain water-soluble carbohydrates(sugars) that are contained in the soybeans.  When the protein is isolated from the soybean, which is low in saturated fat and has absolutely no cholesterol.  When extracted from soy beans they try to keep as much as the isoflavones in the protein; which lowers LDL (bad cholesterol).


A phytochemical (helps reduce risk of cancer) is also found in soy protein.  It is called Genistein.  Soy protein is also great to aid in the fight against cardiovascular disease.  Other things it is loaded with are glutamine, arginine, and branched chained amino acids.


You should take it before and after your workouts for optimal results.  Some ways you can take it are with a shaker and mixing it with water or soy milk.  You can also make fruit smoothies by adding raspberries, strawberries, bananas, ice, soy milk or anything of your choice along with soy protein powder to have a great vegan shake.


In all, soy protein is not the highest seller of the proteins on the market but does give a special population of clients with a great source dependant on their diet and needs.  You can find it in any local nutrition store around you and/or your best deals may come online.
