Decatur has many gems for your children.  If you head towards Lake Decatur, you may be surprised to find one of the best children's museums in the county as well as an excellent zoo.  The zoo might be smaller than those in St. Louis or Chicago, but for younger children it is the perfect size. During the summer the zoo and museum have many programs to attach families from all around.

Decatur is FULL of thrift stores.  In Forsyth, one town north, are two amazing stores that you can get lost in.  The Old Book Barn sells more than just old books.  They have everything from serving plates to antique electronics.

Just a half mile town the street is the Forsyth Antique Village Mall.  Filled with venders from all over the area.  The shop also includes small food shop that is filled with food from local farmers.  If you are lucky the might even have some fresh cinnamon rolls for a sample!

Plentiful Nature

Located on the southwest area of Decatur, Illinois is Rock Springs Conservation Area and Nature Center.  With over 1,300 acres, Rock Springs is home to the largest park in Macon County.  Featuring forest, wetland, grassland and prairie, the park is an amazing learning experience for adults and children alike.

Grab your gym shoes and enjoy nearly nine minutes of hiking trails, or take a long walk on the paved trail that heads from Rock Springs Nature Center to Fairview Park located on the edge of the Millikin University campus.

Fine Arts

Home of two colleges and a growing downtown area, Decatur is rich in fine arts.  Millikin University, which is known for their music and art programs, always has an event going on!  From band concerts to art shows you are sure to find something to do.

Richland Community College also has many events during the years including plays, photography shows and offers a wide range of non-credit classes.
