What is a Stack On Gun Cabinet?

By | Aug 27, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Stack on has been making safes and other security cabinets for guns for many years. They are one of the most popular brands in the market. They have small 2 gun cabinets all the way to 50 gun safes. Their products are well made and innovative. So when a friend said that he bought a Stack On gun cabinet, not safe, I was curious exactly what he was talking about.

A stack on gun cabinet is actually just a cabinet. It is metal and has a lock, but it is not a gun safe. Think of it more like a gym or high school locker. Here are some of the features that make these perfect for the right applications:

  • Many of these can be assembled yourself. They ship in a flat box and you put them together. This can be especially nice for getting it into a smaller location or for transporting the unit.
  • They come with pre-drilled mounting holes in the bottom and back of the cabinet for securing the cabinet to the floor or wall. This is a must so that a thief doesn't simply pick the cabinet up and carry it out of the house to open elsewhere at his leisure.
  • The cabinet has a 3 point locking system, but the keyed lock is rather wimpy and just about anyone with some time and a crowbar could probably get through it. Alternatively, drilling the lock cylinder would probably also open the lock.
  • This gun cabinet has a nice interior with moveable shelves, foam padded bottoms and barrel rests and standoffs for scope guns. These are welcome features that are usually found in higher priced gun safes.
  • At less than $150, these can be a quick and cheap way to secure your weapons. They have many of the basic features that a typical gun safe will have, but without the price or super security.

Don't be fooled, this is not a gun safe. It is a gun locker. But, in the proper environment, it may be just what you need.
