Many people talk about things and items being contemporary, and contemporary truly does fit into a wide variety of meanings. There is contemporary art, which is modern art. Contemporary draws across a wide field of arts and can often be difficult to understand. Contemporary Art is showcased every year at the Tate museum in Liverpool, Miami also has a place called the museum of contemporary art, these places show the word contemporary in all its glory. Charles Saatchi is someone who has been in the contemporary market for a very long time now. He has dominated it with his shocking pieces of work and left people gazed and wondering at what he is doing. I would say that this type of contemporary art is very much modernistic. Charles Saatchi has now decided he wants to find more artists in contemporary Art to push and make his gallery one of the best in the world.

Contemporary furniture is another use of the contemporary that we are often hearing a lot. The great thing about the word contemporary is that it is never closed off to one area of people. Subjects are not called contemporary because of the way they look. Contemporary is "of the moment", therefore contemporary furniture is furniture which is modern. Contemporary Furniture is often associated with furniture that is not in the stores, or that is too weird for the normal home stores that most people shop in. Contemporary furniture is not always this though. Contemporary furniture can be found in many fashionable places and stores, there are many magazines that deal with this too. These magazines are often stylish magazines that are knowledgeable about the modern world and the designs that are new, innovative and contemporary.

Contemporary dance is another form of contemporary. These dance styles are far removed from other dance styles such as popping, locking and B-boying. Contemporary dance is more of a style that has been produced in the last 20 years, the style has changed dramatically and dancers have seen this as time has gone by. Of course contemporary dance will change, the reason for this is that is contemporary. It is a thing of the times, and as times change, so does art, furniture, dance and people. Contemporary dance is still very popular and still one of few dance courses available to people who want to do dance in university education. Contemporary dance is very different to styles such as street dance because they haven't come from the same background.
