Sometimes, acne-prone skin needs a little extra pampering. Am I right?

Enter the face mask. It can be overwhelming when strolling the aisles of your nearest drugstore or target, because there are just so many options! Masks to make your skin tighter, make your skin more moisturized, make your skin look younger, brighter, etc etc etc.

But what is the best drugstore acne mask?

Acne sufferers have different needs than a person with mature skin, for example. The purpose of an acne mask is to draw out toxins, to soothe the skin, and to remove clogged pores.

You really don't want to get something too strong that will actually dry out your skin, and cause your pores to over-produce oil and sebum, leading to even more breakouts. You also don't want to get something too moisturizing that runs the risk of clogging your pores.

Make sure that when you're strolling the aisles of your drugstore skin care section, that you make sure to stay away from products that are labeled for "mature skin."  Those are almost always not going to be great for faces that are prone to breakouts.

As a general rule, clay-type masks are good for pimples, as they have a detoxifying effect, as well as pulling out hte impurities from your pores.  They also tend to shrink pores, which can minimize the appearance of blackheads.

The peel-off types of masks can also be good, because they can grab the clogs inside of blackheads to clear them out.  Just make sure not to use the peel-off type of mask too often (no more than once a week) because it can be overly drying.

Here are my top 3 choices for drugstore acne masks:

1. Yes To Tomatoes Skin Clearing Facial Mask-

The "Yes to Tomatoes Skin Clearing Mask" has some really great features. First of all, it is made specifically with the acne-sufferer in mind. It is designed to be anti-inflammatory, as well as to control excess sebum production, which is one of the key causes of outbreaks.

It's ingredients include minerals from the dead sea and, of course, organic tomatoes. Tomatoes contain a compound called "lycopene" which studies have shown to be effective at promoting clear skin.

2. Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser and Mask-

The Neutrogena Clear Pore Mask is a neat product, because it is both a cleanser and a mask in one. It's active ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide (3.5%), so if your skin have proven sensitive to Benzoyl Peroxide in the past, you may not want to invest in this product. To use as a mask, limit your use to 2-3 times a week. Apply over dry skin and leave on for up to five minutes. I would start by applying this treatment only once a week, and build up as your skin can tolerate it.

3. Aztec Secrets Indian Healing Clay Mask-

OK, so this one isn't specifically an acne mask. But it is an excellent general-purpose detoxifying mask. It is made from a unique material, 100% natural calcium bentonite clay. It has no fragrances, additives, or other potentially irritating ingredients, so if you have sensitive skin, this could be great for you.
