What is the Purpose of Ear Wax

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

The surface of the external ear canal is lubricated with ear wax. It provides a sticky surface which catches dirt before it can get to the eardrum and cause damage.

It also has an antiseptic effect in that it helps keep the outer ear free from infections.

Excess ear wax usually becomes dry on being exposed to air. The constant movement of the jaw and ear canal causes it to crack and fall out.

Too much ear wax has been found to be the cause of an assortment of medical complaints, but it's not a normal thing to have too much.

Your physician can make recommendations or remove the excess wax , if necessary.

Hearing loss and ringing in the ears has been attributed to excess ear wax buildup.

There are over the counter products you can purchase for ear wax removal. However, you should only do so with a doctor's recommendation.
