What to Take With You When Camping
Are you going on a camping trip? These can be exciting adventures with your friends or family. However, it is sometimes hard to know what take with you exactly. In this article, I will give you some factors that you need to think about when deciding on what to take with you. At the end of the article, you will have enough knowledge to correctly pack for your camping trip.
Purpose
You need to think about what the purpose of your trip is. If you are taking your family on a leisurely trip to the outdoors then you will need more gear than if you were going hiking for several days. Do you want to live it rough and therefore take only a backpack with you? Or do you want to go fishing and need to bring all the gear with you?
Length
How long you are going camping for will determine how many supplies and fresh clothes you will need to bring. You will need to balance how much you are taking with how much you can actually carry.
Weather
Don't rely on weather forecasts because they can change at anytime. Instead, think about where you are going and the current season to tell you what you need to bring. Regardless of the season however, you should bring with you a good selection of warm and weather proof clothes. Too many people have go out thinking the weather will be warm only to be caught in a cold, wet and windy change of weather.
Location
Are you going to be located at a campsite with electricity and outdoor electric grills? Or will you be deep in the wilderness with little contact with civilization? If the later, you will need to bring with you equipment to make yourself more comfortable and safe. This could include a portable stainless steel gas grill, extra supplies, radio or GPS locator.
Terrain
The terrain will also dictate your equipment needs. Hilly and rugged terrain will require some good boots and a commercial hiking stick. You may even need rappelling ropes. If the terrain is flat or downhill, you may want to use a mountain bike to travel faster.
Safety
Safety should be your number one priority whenever you go into the wilderness. You should have a pouch full of emergency supplies that never leaves your side. This pouch should include such things as a map, compass, fire starting equipment, GPS, first aid kit and extra food rations.
