When is a Necklace Box More Than Just a Box?

By | May 19, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

If you believe that the box a necklace is given in does not matter, you better think again. Rumor has it that Marie Antoinette never accepted a necklace unless she deemed the box it arrived in to be worthy. If it was not, the gift was rejected unopened and returned to the person who sent it. In 1954 Joe DiMaggio gave Marilyn Monroe a pearl necklace designed by Mikimoto. To this day, the necklace is shown with its original coral box and the necklace now bears her name.

You will want to choose the gift box based on the age of the person you are giving the necklace to and the occasion on which the gift will be given. You will also want to consider the design of the necklace itself and choose something that complements it. After all, this is the first thing that will be noticed and you want your gift to make a great first impression.

The ordinary gray rectangular box is no longer in fashion. Instead, you are encouraged to be creative when picking out a box for a necklace. Not only do colors mean different things but different shapes are also meaningful and symbolic. There are many different ways to suitably display a necklace.

A box shaped like a shell is the perfect choice for a pearl necklace. It is even better if the box is lined in a satin that is off-white in color. This necklace box will bring out the luster of the pearls and actually show them off in an environment that is similar to where they are found naturally. A pearl necklace in a white box is the perfect gift for a teenager receiving a piece of real jewelry for the first time.

A simple black necklace box provides the sophistication deserved by fine diamonds. This precious gem should always take center stage and nestled in the traditional slender rectangular box, it will. The rectangle represents an intelligent protector to members of the Navajo Indian tribe and that makes it the perfect match when the gift is from a man to the love of his life.

Circles symbolize the sacred female and her life in motion. Their appropriate companion gems would be sapphires which represent joy. A bed of white satin is the best choice to showcase the vibrant color that characterizes sapphires.

If you choose an elaborate box made out of metal or wood, the box will also be a gift and nothing would please the recipient more.
