Where Did You Spend Your Honeymoon?

Everyone remembers the honeymoon...

Oh, the honeymoon!  Everyone remembers the honeymoon, if it would just last a little longer.  What a glorious time when everything seems to go as planned and everyone is all smiles.  At least that’s the plan.  The wedding is over and we don’t have to think of work for a while, just kick back and enjoy each other, get away and recoup as you plan the rest of your lives together…

But not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a honeymoon immediately after the wedding and strive to plan on one sometime in the future always hoping for more favorable conditions to present themselves at a more opportune time somehow down the road.  Statistics however do not support that plan so most brides insist on a honeymoon following the wedding so as to insure the certainty of having one at all.

Honeymoon Capitol of the South...

Of course todays couples are having their ceremonies everywhere and anywhere, inside and outside, mornings and evenings, there seems to be no set standards anymore, and each country and region find changes as well.  Up to thirty years ago, here in the United States, Niagara Falls used to be the honeymoon site of choice for most weddings booked east of the Mississippi River.  Now days, the Great Smokey Mountains would account for at least half and probably more of those weddings and/or honeymoons because of a more- central location.  In the surrounding area alone there are probably a hundred or more wedding chapels set up and all with an ordained minister, photographer and witnesses, that will marry couples just about any time, day or night providing the couples have the proper paperwork and have met the waiting period requirements.

Personally my wife and I got married in our home church and drove the short distance to our honeymoon villa overlooking Mt LeConte, the highest peak in the Smokey Mountain chain of mountains.  There are hundreds of sites all around the Smokies all vying for your lucrative business and offering very similar amenity packages.  One thing that is always a big attraction are the hot tubs both inside and outside the villas that you have to choose from.  Most also offer a view of the mountains depicting the natural beauty of this part of the country.  Some packages also offer horseback riding and/or hiking on the many trails depending of course on the time of year you are planning your joyous honeymoon.

The small town of Gatlinburg TN, at the entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains on the Tennessee side is often referred to as the Wedding Capitol of the South in reference to the many weddings held there each year.  Also, this area of the country is well visited all during the year and couples can get married during each season, so if couples are snow and ice enthusiasts rather than summer hiking buffs, they can marry and have their honeymoon while being surrounded with skiing and/or ice skating activities plus have the comfort of warm cabins and numerous restaurants and eating establishments for times they are not on the slopes.

Married in a local church, then off to north Georgia near Helen. So much up there to see and do. Need more than just honeymoon time. We go back every year
and enjoy the time all over again.
