Where did my Buick Dealer go?

All I wanted was a new set of Buick floor mats for my Buick Lacrosse. It was a simple process last time I wanted a set. All I had to do was go to my Buick dealer. Guess what? There is no Buick dealer in my town anymore. Now I have a project on my hands. I visited the local auto parts store and found only some dusty floor mats that weren't even close to what I needed. The same result came from visiting the local Wal-Mart and Target. I was about to give up and just keep the old dirty ones when my 12 year old told me to look online. There were more kinds to choose from than I dreamed of. Carpet, rubber, leather, coco, sisal and even some fake animal skins. My time problem has changed from wasting time driving around to find something I don't want to looking at hundreds of web sites and having to waste my time choosing something I am going to stand on. I am not sure which is a bigger waste of my time.

So the question becomes, which ones did I choose. I thought long and hard about the leather floor mats. Those were really unique, but somehow stepping on leather just didn't seem right. The same feeling went over me about the fake animal skins like zebra, leopard and cow. The Coco mats seemed cool since I remembered them from a Woodie I owned in the 1970s. But I don't live on the beach so there is no sand to worry about. The floor mats were just like the ones I was taking out, so I felt like the research was useless unless I did something different. What I ended up buying were actually not custom fit at all. They fit nice but they were more or less universal. I ended up buying personalized car mats that had my nickname on them. They were made of rubber and had some higher sides to hold the snow from my shoes, so they met my functional needs. Having a BIG JAKE on my Buick floor mats made them mine -- only mine -- and that made my day.
