Vail is a small town in Eagle County, Colorado. It has a population of around 4600 people and is one of Colorado's many popular ski destinations. The town actually got its beginnings as a ski resort. The town was built to be the base village of the Vail Ski Resort. The town was founded by Pete Seibert and Earl Eaton in 1962.
Vail is located about 97 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70. Since it is directly on I70, it's not to hard to reach in the winter. The Colorado Department of Transportation does a good job of keeping the highways clear in the winter. Of course, if you're not used to driving in winter conditions, the road may be very dangerous in the winter. The driving time to reach Vail in good weather is about 2 hours from Denver.

What to do in Vail?
There are year round activities in Vail people of all ages can enjoy. The town was established as a ski resort so the most typical activity is skiing and other winter sports. Vail is also popular in the summer and has a golf course, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and almost any other outdoor activity imaginable.
The Vail city council tries to provide year round activities as well. Some common and popular activities are the Vail Film Festival, Vail Lacrosse Shootout, Vail Valley Music Festival and the Vail International Dance Festival which has featured the New York City Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet in the past.
As is common with most small towns and cities that rely on tourism, Vail has a good number of local shops and restaurants to help entertain visitors. There are literally hundreds of shops in Vail that carry a wide variety of goods from outdoor gear to art galleries. The town is pedestrian friendly and taking a stroll around town with the family is a way to spend an enjoyable afternoon.

The best value in Vail for your money appears to be the Westwind at Vail. It has rave reviews from everyone who has stayed there and the price is very reasonable. The prices on Tripadvisor for the Westwind are between $70 and $200 per night.
Vail is located in the heart of the Rockies and is a breathtaking location to visit. The views around town are spectacular and due to its reputation as a tourist location the service around town is fantastic.
