Where to Find the Best Tailgating Grills
It's getting close to that time a year again, when we break out all the tailgating gear: the old jerseys, the massive coolers, your favorite tailgating game, the tailgating recipe books and your trusty grill. But perhaps, that trusty grill is looking a little bit more like a rusty grill. If you've had your tailgating grill for a while or simply need a new one, this article will help you find the best tailgating grill for you.
I have to warn you that these tailgating grills aren't the over-the-top, in your face monster grills that the big boys throw a lot of money down on. These grills are quality portable grills designed for tailgating or other situations that you'd need to travel with a grill. The advances in design and materials, just in the last few years have made portable grills so much more convenient and packed with features.
But which ones do you really need?
Grilling Surface Size - Because everybody has their own idea of tailgating and what they want grill – whether its burgers and brats, or shish kabobs, the first factor you should look for is size of the grilling surface. Simple ones will let you grill about four burgers or dogs at a time, while the big boys will let you feed a whole crew of starving fans. Keep in mind that the size of the grilling surface affects the size of the grill which affects the amount of room you have in the back of your vehicle.
Fuel type – This is a major debate amongst top tailgating chefs. Do you go Gas or Charcoal? Each method has it's pros and cons. Gas grills will heat evenly and quickly and light just fine but are a nightmare if you run out of gas mid grill. Charcoal has the undeniably smoky flavor and is a favorite of many chefs, but you run into trouble with hot spots and lighting and it leaves a mess that will inevitably get into the back of your vehicle.
Portability – Nowadays most all of the best tailgating grills are designed with portability in mind but each one does it a little bit differently. There are grills that will mount to the hitch of your vehicle providing the ultimate in convenience when grilling as well as when it's time to go. Then there are those that have folding legs, side tables, and whatever else you can think of. These are great for fitting into your vehicle but have a few extra steps involved, but they're still way better than try to throw the old school charbroil grills into your car.
