Which Phones are the Best Deals?

By Edited Jun 30, 2015 0 0

Mobile phones don't come cheap. Prices have dropped a little over recent years on solid mobile devices, but not that much. Rather than phones getting cheaper, what we're seeing is that they remain around the same price and come with more features. With a top end phone going for over five hundred pounds, a new mobile is a big investment. And in today's economy, most of us are looking to save cash. A common way that most people choose to get a low cost phone is by signing an incentive contract with a mobile phone operator. This tends not to be a great idea though, since you generally end up paying far more than the retail cost of the phone over the course of the contract. A much better plan is to look for a decently priced phone and buy it yourself. Today we're looking at which models currently on the market make the best deals. Depending on what you're looking for, there's going to be a phone here for you. So before you start your mobile shopping, read on to find out which phones are the best deals right now.

Cheap iPhone Deals...

iPhones are high demand items, which means you're unlikely to see many discounts and special offers on them. But if you're looking for cheap iPhone deals, then you do have a couple of options. Firstly, forgo the top end iPhone 5. It's the newest model, and it has a bigger screen and slightly more powerful processor than it's predecessors. However, in every other respect the older iPhone 4S is identical to the iPhone 5. If you really want cheap iPhone deals, then the 4S is the model to go for. The best deals on iPhones are going to be through the Apple web site's refurbished model section. You'll get a full two year warranty on a refurbished iPhone through Apple, so you'll have no worries about anything going wrong. And if you're willing to go for the even older iPhone 4 model then you can get some great prices through normal high street retailers.

Best Budget Deal...

Buying a budget smart phone can be a bit of a risk. Budget models tend to have small screens that make for uncomfortable viewing and typing, as well as poor processors and small internal memory. However, there's one phone right now that's a clear stand out in the budget category. The Huawei Ascend W1 is a new model from Huawei, and has the biggest screen of any budget smart phone. You get some fair processing power, though it's not the fastest phone on the market. It retails at around a hundred pounds, so the Ascend W1 is a steal, and it's really not a bad phone. If you're looking for cheap but don't want to make too many sacrifices, then the Ascend W1 is where it's at.

Best Value for Money...

When it comes to value for money then you're not going to do any better than the LG Nexus 4. This is pretty much a high end smart phone for a middle market price. It retails for around three hundred pounds, but has a lot of the features of a top of the line mobile. There's a huge, high definition screen, tons of processing power as well as all the connectivity features you'd expect and some nice build quality too. The Nexus fails a little in the area of battery life, though it still has a good ten to twelve hours of talk time so you shouldn't have to charge it more than once a day. But it even looks and feels like a high end phone, and really is the best deal on the market right now.

Top End Phone Deals...

It's tough to find a good deal on a high end phone. These phones are generally new releases and there's no reason for retailers to offer discounts on them. The top three phones, feature wise, on the market right now are the Samsung Galaxy S 4, the Blackberry Z10 and the Sony Xperia Z. You're not going to find special offers on these models. Out of the three, the Samsung retails slightly cheaper, but not by much. If these are the models that you're looking at you have a couple of choices. If you wait a couple of months it's likely that prices are going to drop, at least a little, though by that point these might not be the top phones on the market any more. If you're desperate for these models, then you may just end up having to sign an incentive contract to get one, since you're unlikely to find them cheaper elsewhere. O2 generally offers the best prices on incentive contracts for top end models.

Windows Phone Deals...

The new Windows 8 operating system has suddenly made Windows phones desirable again. They're fast, easier to use than ever, and get some pretty high specs. The problem with Windows phones is that they tend to be much more expensive than comparable Android models. But if you're looking for Windows, then there is a good option out there for you. The top of the line Windows model right now is the Nokia Lumia 920. There's the awesome screen and camera that you'd expect from a Nokia model, as well as some  hefty processing power, lots of internal memory and a Nokia designed user interface that makes the running of Windows that much smoother. Of course, the Lumia 920 retails at premium prices. However, its little brother, the Lumia 620 has a lot of the same features as the 920. The screen, camera, build quality and user interface are all comparable. You lose out on a little processing power, but not enough to be noticeable to the average user, and there's slightly less internal memory on the Lumia 620. But there is a big price difference. If you're looking for a bargain on the Windows market, then it's going to have to be the Nokia Lumia 620.
