In Hollywood, everywhere you go, you find young actors and actresses who would kill to be a celebrity. Celebs usually have the best bodies, the best hair, have the best social skills and everyone adores them for it. Well not anymore! Nowadays in Hollywood, famous people can look like anyone and this article will highlight Hollywood geeks like Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Paul Iacono, Tobey Maguire, Jaleel White and Aaron Johnson, showing geeks are slowly taking over Hollywood too!
In this installment of my geek series, the first Hollywood geek featured in this article is Christopher Mintz-Plasse. This young geek in Hollywood first appeared in the movie Superbad, with Jonah Hill and Seth Rogan. In this movie, the character Fogell (better known as McLovin) consistently botches plans but eventually wins the audience over by playing it cool… even with a lisp.
The next geek mentioned is Paul Iacono, better known as RJ Berger from The Hard Times of RJ Berger. The one quality that differentiates him from the other geeks on this list is his gigantic appendage (so I’m told). Even though RJ is clearly a geek in the show, he is a shining example that a man I not measured by how cool he is but instead, the size of his… heart!
The most well-known geek being mentioned was another science nerd who was bitten by a radioactive bug. In Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire played meek high school student, Peter Parker but everything shifted when his spider powers kicked in. He was now super strong, could cling to walls, had enhanced agility and cool webs. The sad part is that his power to keep a girlfriend never developed.
This next geek mentioned is not as current as the others but is a well-known addition to the bunch. Jaleel White played the geek “Steve Urkel” for many years on the show Family Matters and proved to be an icon of “geekdom”. Even when he had the chance to date Laura Winslow as “Stefan Urquelle” (an alter-ego), he eventually chose to be himself, instead of being the stud that she preferred. This was the ultimate example of geek selflove!
The last geek being mentioned is Dave, portrayed by Aaron Johnson, in the movie titled Kick-Ass. Aaron's character is a comic book geek who pretends to be gay for a girl and takes it upon himself to become a powerless superhero. Just like the other geeks, Kick-Ass (the hero) shows nothing but courage in the face of danger. He eventually saves the day and gets the girl... after finally revealing to her that he's not gay.
