Why A Futon Cover Is An Inexpensive And Great Solution

By | 3 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

There are a number of reasons why people rely on futon covers for their futon mattress-sofa and we'll discuss some of those reasons here for the un-initiated. In case you don't know, futons are making a big comeback and the choices available to cover them with are just as great. You can find a futon slipcover in the old standby cotton or something more exotic and luxurious like a silk or animal print.

It really depends upon your home décor style and preferences. In most situations, you can find that futon covers will solve several different styling and design dilemmas for you. For one thing, it is just human nature to get a bit tired of looking at the same old furniture in your home. So, rather than spend all the money to get new stuff (if you own a futon) you can simply buy some new futon covers and you are all set. The change of pace will be just enough to get that new furniture bug off your back. The husband will be so happy, trust me on this one.

Getting a new cover for a futon is probably the least expensive way to change the look of a room, besides simply moving your existing furniture around the house. If you plan on spending any money, getting a new cover will cost you under $100 USD, probably under $50USD if you get a simple solid color cotton cover. You can spend a few hundred if you really want to dress up your space as mentioned with the silk or leather futon cover. There are also more 'green friendly' options now with hemp and organic cottons. In fact, the prints available on some cotton and organic cotton slipcovers can be done with natural dyes and pigments as well for an all around 'sustainable' cover.

So, all these different futon cover options look great and they are relatively inexpensive, but don't forget that they also protect and extend the life of your futon mattress as well. All beauty and brawn, a great combination. If you use a cover for your futon, you will find that it helps prevent the normal wear and tear that happens on that thin casing that covers the batting of your futon mattress. If you use your futon for extra seating when entertaining, you will be less apprehensive about spills and other stains as they can be cleaned and even laundered in the case of a cotton cover. For all practical purposes, the price and convenience of a quality cover for your futon can't be beat.

I use a regular duvet cover on mine. Duvet covers can be found on sale for about $10, and even better, you can use one as a pattern to make more!

Indeed, the duvet is a great addition to any futon. There is something even that much more comforting knowing that you are sleeping on a futon mattress beneath your own duvet.

You misunderstood me. I use a regular duvet cover AS a futon mattress cover. They're easy to get on and off to wash them.
