Why Are Flannel Sheets Widely Used?

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

If you happen to reside in an area that is cold all year round, then you should consider getting yourself a set of flannel bedding. The flannel sheets are able to keep you warm and cozy during bedtime and thus this makes it a well-liked option for most people.

If you notice, flannel has been widely used in other forms such as jeans and shirts and it can be commonly seen to be worn by both men and women. At the same time, flannel bedding is on a rising demand and it has become more well-liked by most countries.

Most of the people check the thread count of the sheets before deciding to purchase them. But you will not find any thread count on flannel sheets. In fact, they are categorized based on its thickness as well as weight. The more common bedding is created of the 4 ounces flannel. However, you can also find heavier flannel which is even more cozy and warm. If you are wondering, the weight of it is actually determined by per square yard of the fabric. As a rule of thumb, try to get flannel that weighs 6 ounces or more if you prefer to have a quality one.

These sheets are the best option during the cold nights. However, as the weather turns warmer, it might be a little inappropriate to be using them. Covering yourself with flannel during the spring and fall may cause you to feel warm and may make it difficult to get to sleep. Therefore, I suggest using it only during the winter and when the weather is really cold.

There is one major problem with flannel that most people face and that is pilling which might occur when it is being washed frequently. Pilling means that the tiny flurry fabric balls could be seen on the surface of the fabric. However, most manufacturers have addressed this issue and most of the sheets sold now are often pill resistant. Therefore, you don't have to worry on how to deal with this problem anymore and enjoy the full comfort during bedtime provided that you stick to the washing instructions closely. Also, try not to wash your bedding in hot water to reduce the chance of pilling.

Flannel bedding has become more commonly used nowadays as it is easier to take care of. At the same time, it gives people a cozy and soft feeling that other bedding couldn't provide. I highly recommend you to start using the flannel sheet or at least give it a try.
