     While many performance car fans are well aware of the advantages of mandrel bends for their exhaust systems, others may be skeptical about the need for this specific type of work. As plenty of misinformation is circulated among the performance vehicle community, deciding whether mandrel bends are all they're cracked up to be isn't always straightforward. A qualified parts and manufacturing shop, however, is likely to impart that mandrel bends are vastly superior to press bends and other similar products for various reasons, all of which boil down to dramatically increased performance. Even with a smaller engine or an exhaust configuration that requires minimal bending angles and a minimum of bends themselves, mandrels can easily provide a performance and efficiency boost capable of helping drivers and builders get more out of their vehicles.

     Mandrel bends are manufactured through the use of precise pressure placed both inside and outside of the pipe, allowing for a smooth and even diameter that doesn't exhibit irregularities near bend points, as other bend types tend to do. Though such irregularities are typically less than an inch, and may not be immediately noticeable at a glance, they can significantly detract from a vehicle's mileage, torque, and even horsepower. The larger the engine and the more complex the exhaust system, the more serious these disadvantages are bound to become.

     When mandrel bends are used instead of other bend types, drivers and builders can expect a greatly decreased backpressure, which will result not only in better fuel efficiency, but which is likely to be felt while the vehicle is operated. Though some enthusiasts may suggest that such differences are small enough to make mandrel bends unnecessary, backpressure can actually decrease by as much as 35% in vehicles that leave the disadvantages of pressure bends behind and embrace the superior quality of mandrels.

     Building and owning performance vehicles often requires careful considerations in terms of price, and while some manufacturers may offer standard bends at especially low prices, opting for mandrel bends is bound to pay off in the long-term. From lowering fuel costs to ensuring total satisfaction that doesn't require future upgrading, mandrel bends are a wise choice for anyone who wants to achieve the true meaning of "performance." With quality bends, great vehicles can get closer to the ideals of even the most ambitious builders.
