Why You Should Consider Buying Refurbished Laptops

By | Dec 21, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

One of the interesting characteristics about human nature is what motivates a person. The average American has no qualm about buying a quality used vehicle when he needs to purchase some new transportation for his family. We even will burn a half-tank of gas on the weekend trying to find special deals at garage sales and flea markets. It is amazing to see someone brag about buying a used TV set from the back-end of a pickup truck that is parked at the end of the subdivision. However, when it comes to refurbished laptops, the computer consumer will turn up his nose in favor of paying several hundred dollars more at the glitzy retail store.

There is really no good reason to ignore the offers from the manufacturers who made them in the first place. How do we get past the stigma that the term refurbished means 'damaged goods'? Here are some facts to consider why refurbished laptops can be a good choice:

  • The American economy is in a shambles today. In a recent Associated Press statement the expectation of holiday sales will grow at the slowest pace in six years. The reason for the slow growth is that everyone is worried sick about jobs, housing, the stock market, high gas and food prices. Good buying habits include examining all the available options in a sale, and a low price for good quality, refurbished laptops is a strong reason for shopping for them.
  • The use of the term 'used' when describing a laptop computer creates a dismal picture in one's mental image of a purchase prospect. Factory refurbished laptops are generally machines that were returned before a month had transpired due to the consumer not happy with the performance of the machine or found a better deal somewhere else and wanted a refund to buy from someone else. The manufacturer takes the returned machines and examines them thoroughly and if there are any 'bugs' or malfunctioning parts, they are replaced with new ones and the machine is better than it was new.
  • Purchasing refurbished laptop computers from reputable dealers will generally offer a warranty up to one year for the machine. And practically every big box computer retailer will sell extended warranty packages, even for refurbished laptops, which should speak well for the quality and durability factor of these machines. When all is said and done, you may find that by purchasing a refurbished laptop with an extended warranty package the price is still far below what you would have spent on the 'new' machine one aisle away.
The manufacturers have done a great deal to remove buyer remorse from the vocabulary of computer shoppers. In a survey done of buyers of refurbished machines only 7% were dissatisfied with their purchase. That, in itself, should help you in your consideration of purchasing refurbished laptops.
