Why You Should Have an Ergonomic Workstation Desk

By | Jun 7, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

What is ergonomics? Ergonomics, simply put, is the science of comfort. Ergonomic furniture is built to be used for working long hours and in the same position. If you work in an office, chances are you sit n front of your computer for long periods at a time. If that's the case, you should really think about using an ergonomic workstation desk.

If you're comfortable while you work, chances are you'll be more efficient. Increased efficiency means more work done, translating to more profits for your company. Also, if you use a desk or chair that's uncomfortable to use, it's highly likely that you'll develop neck and spine problems later in life. This is why it's important for organizations or companies to invest in ergonomic workstations.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR WORKSTATION INTO AN ERGONOMIC ONE:

It may sound difficult, but it's actually very easy to convert your existing workstation into an ergonomic one. With a little effort, you'll be able to create a more comfortable place to work by following the simple steps below:

1. Make sure that your workstation desk is in front of a window and you dont have any windows behind you. Sunlight from the windows reflects on your computer monitor, which may cause you to strain to read whatever's on the screen.

2. As a preventive measure, or even if you already have eye problems, try asking the person in charge to provide you with a monitor shield for your computer screen. Also, make sure that the lights should be focused directly over your desk and not from the side, as the lights may reflect on your computer screen.

3. Try and practice good posture while working. Do not slouch or slump forwards. Make sure that your shoulders are relaxed, and you don't have to stretch your hands to reach the keyboard. If needed, adjust your chair so that isn't too close to or too far from the screen. The armrests of your chair should be cushioned, so you have a place to rest your hands.

4. The back of your chair shouldn't be overly cushioned. It shouldn't be too hard, either. It's never a good experience to work in an uncomfortable chair.

5. The height of the desk should not be too high or too low. If this is the case, your hands and neck will feel the pressure of having to crane your neck up or bend your neck forward just to be able to see your desk.

6. Lastly, your workstation desk should have a space for you rest your legs. Cramped legs will make it hard for you to work for long periods. Also, make sure that your workstation has a place for the wires going into and coming out of the computer, as your feet may get entangled in them.

Little things such as changing the position of your workstation ergonomic desk or adjusting the height of your chair can do a great deal in making your workstation a more comfortable place for you to work in. Just make sure that you feel comfortable in your workstation, so that working will become an enjoyable experience.
