Improving the IT infrastructure of a company is a great way to reduce costs and increase productivity. Nowadays every company use computers and the efficiency of the IT infrastructure is thus crucial of a company's success.

Technology is evolving very quickly and it is hard for companies to keep up with this steady pace.
Most companies use old technologies that have evolved in the last years. Old IT infrastructures create an unproductive environment because of the failures or the hassle to compete a specific task.
Moreover, understanding IT requires a technical knowledge that most managers don't have. In the case of small and middle office, it is rare to have a dedicated IT manager because of the cost of this headcount.
This is why such companies should look after IT consulting companies that will help them to improve their IT infrastructure.

What are the benefits for a small company to use the services of an IT consulting firm?
Firstly, the consulting company will do an IT assessment.
During this step, the IT firm will look at the current situation and list all mistakes or risks for the company. They will provide profit focused solutions in order to solve those problems.
Moreover if the IT company find ways to improve the productivity or the security of the firm, they will state a pool of recommendation.

After doing the inventory the company's IT infrastructure, the consulting company will define risks and requirements and deliver a report. In this report, you will find a plan for improvement covering the following areas: server management, data management and recovery and security and networks.
The costs of each solution will be included with a detailed description of the proposed solution.

If the company decides to improve its IT infrastructure based on the recommendations, the IT consulting company will make an offer of its services.
Both companies negotiate in order to find a deal and the project can start off. A planning will be created with milestones in order to track the evolution and the advancement of the project.
A list of deliverables should always be made before signing any contracts in order to know in advance what to expect and have a reference to refer to in the future.

Thumbs up on this one! I found this to be very interesting because I am an information technology professional. "No matter how much you know today, you will have to know more tomorrow." (unknown). IT personnel have to constantly keep up with changes, which can be very challenging.
