On 31st July 2010, Twitter reached a landmark as Tokyo-based Graphic Designer GGGGGGo_Lets_Go gave the popular social networking service its 20 billionth tweet, double the number of tweets it had received only five months earlier, of which had taken four years to reach.

What does this teach us?

That Twitter is growing rapidly, and with more users signing up, there is huge amounts of opportunity.

  • According to research conducted in August 2009, 41% of Tweets is Pointless Babble, 38% are Conversational, 9% have pass along value, 6% are self-promotional, 4% is spam and 4% are news-related.
  • 600 tweets are sent every single second from all over the globe
  • At the end of 2009, Twitter had 18 million users

  • Follow, allows you to follow people and businesses that are relevant to your field of work
  • Search users by interest/name to pinpoint a specific audience
  • Include links to your blogs and websites, ensuring followers know exactly what you're upto
