Wicker And Interior Design

A lot of the time when we thinking about interior design or decorating, we thing about the larger scheme as in what furniture to buy – like paintings or pictures for the walls, carpeting, rugs and other large and high impact items. However, we mustn't forget about the smaller items that really fill in and add texture like a nice set of coasters, baskets, candles and other great accessories.

Not only that but what type of materials are you mixing together with your design? We often think about shape, color and design, but don't focus on material as much. So the focus of this article is wicker (also commonly called cane or rattan) and interior decorating.

The great thing about wicker is that it is pretty inexpensive relative to other materials. It is light and will last a long time if taken care of properly. Wicker is used for all types of furniture, from living room to bedroom furniture to conservatory furniture. Even wicker storage for clothing are are really functional, stylish and durable - I have one in my bedroom for over 10 years. There are so many pieces to use in the bedroom, just be careful in using too many otherwise your bedroom or living room will start to feel like a patio or deck.

Of course for smaller items like wicker baskets, boxes and even coasters can be used to decorate any room. Wicker baskets are great for holding any type of item, from consumables lie fruit, vegetables or bread for in the kitchen use, to magazines, cards or games or other readily accessible items in the living room. You can even place a small plant or bonsai in a wicker basket, and hang them from hooks. Let's not forget about wicker chairs or even rocking chairs - which can be a great addition to inside or outside your home. Outdoor wicker furniture is quite popular, and can be a really great addition to your home. Wicker tables and nightstands are also amazing pieces to add to your collection whether putting the in your habitation or living area. Of course you'll want to balance them properly and not overdo it. You can of course find wicker pieces at retail stores like Pier 1, most local furniture stores, and by shopping online. Consider buying used furniture as well. It's a great idea to mix fresh furniture with slightly aged furniture to give different looks.
