Wicker Furniture For Your Dining Room

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Tired of the same old wooden dining rooms? Same old chairs, same old tables, same old species of wood? Forget the same-old-same old. Why not go for something fresh - like wicker furniture?
If you thought wicker chairs and tables were only for your patio, you may think again. After all, if it is good enough for outdoor use, then why should it not work in your dining room as well?

Of course, wicker furniture will always lend a certain feeling of exotic style to any setting, but that may be just what your home needs. If you wanted, you could decorate your dining room in an asian flavour, with asian styled wicker dining furniture as the basis and various art objects added to complete the feeling of being somewhere in China, Vietnam or Thailand. You could easily do the same to achieve a more pacific feel, like that of Tonga, Samoa or Hawaii, where wicker furniture is also often found. If you would rather focus on a certain timeperiod, there are several styles to choose from that draw their inspiration from british colonial style, art deco, etc. This could become quite a theme, not to mention a conversation piece, if done properly.

How does wicker replace wood or other materials in your dining room? Wicker per definition is merely plant fibres in sizes ranging from thin strands to massive bamboo several inches thick, so there is a lot of freedom in the material. This means it is perfectly possible to make strong pieces of furniture that do not stand in the shadow of wooden furniture in any way. To the contrary, wicker chairs for instance will often be more flexible by their very nature - without being unstable or flimsy, if properly constructed. The same thing applies to wicker dining tables. I mean, if you need something more stable than a table leg made of four inch thick rattan, you should probably look into steel tube - or concrete pillars. The only thing that doesn't gain from being made from wicker, is the tabletop itself. This is often made from glass instead - a good choice in terms of having a level surface that is easy to clean and provides good support for even the most delicate glassware. Glass tabletops are often simply added to the top of an all-wicker construction, so if you don't like looking at your feet while eating, you don't necessarily have to. By the way, even discount wicker furniture will have glass tops.

I hope you have gained a little knowledge and inspiration to go for wicker furniture for your dining room. You will find it a fresh breath of change I am sure.
