Wide Leg Pants
Wide leg pants are something that seem to come in and out of style constantly. Throughout the years there have been a few different subcultures in different countries that have used these garments as an essential part of their wardrobe. These pants have also gone by a few different names throughout their various incarnations. Even today, Men's wide leg jeans remain popular among some groups.
If you are looking for a pair of wide leg jeans you have a lot of different options. You can almost always find them cheaper online than you can at a brick and mortar retailer. This is not only because of the lowered costs but also because online retailers often have special deals on clothing that they don't offer at the storefront.
Wide leg pants have also been called baggy pants or "baggies" depending on what part of the world you are in. During their original popularity, which was arguably in the mid nineties they were usually just call baggy pants. This was most in the United States however. In some other parts of the world the name 'baggies' was much more popular. A notable country that preferred to call them baggies was the United Kingdom, however this term has faded with the original fad. Today the subcultures in the United Kingdom, as well as manufactures, prefer to simply call them wide leg jeans.
There have been a few different subcultures that have grabbed onto this fad. One of the first was arguably the 'alternative' style during the mid to late 1990s. What I remember from this period most vividly was all of the kids who were into skateboarding often wore baggy jeans. This is quite a bit different from today, where 'alternative' and skaters often wear skinny jeans. Another group of people in the United States that still wear baggy pants is the hip-hop subculture. This has been mainly focused on a single brand-JNCO. However, many other brands which are primarily ethnic and youth oriented have came on the market as well.
Wide leg pant are mostly characterized by their long and wide legs, particularly at the hem. This is quite a bit different from the bell bottom jeans which were popular during the 1970s in the United States which are only wide legged bellow the knee however. The pant legs on baggy jeans are almost always atleast twenty inches at the hem. There are other types of baggy jeans such as the super wide leg pants which often have a circumference at the hem of twenty three to twenty six inches as well as extreme wide leg pants that can have a circumference of over twenty six inches at the hem.
