Comparison Review: WAC5500 and WAC6300

Are you debating whether to get either the Winix plasmawave 5500 or 6300 air purifier unit, however can’t quite decide? If so, the following brief & objective comparison article -- WAC5500 Vs WAC6300 -- will be able to help you out through a feature by feature contrasting analysis that highlights both their differences & similarities amongst specifications between the two units so you can clearly see what each unit can offer you. From this, you will then be able to easily identify which is the ideal model for you.

Capture System

wac5500: 3 stage air cleaning | 99.97% 'True-HEPA' filter (life-long, washable)

wac6300: 3 stage air cleaning | 99.7% ‘True-HEPA’ filter (life-long, washable)

Both units conduct the same three-stage cleaning operation of firstly utilising the carbon pre-filter (which basically captures particles in the air e.g. odors, chemical vapors -- adding a 'freshness' to the air supply) & then use of the true HEPA filter comes into use (collecting microscopic pollen & dust particles, as small as 0.3 microns) and finally the unique Winix PlasmaWave technology that acts to neutralise viruses & bacteria (more on this later).

Room Rating

wac5500: CADR 350 sq ft. | Air Quality Sensor

wac6300: CADR 350 sq ft. | Air Quality Sensor

Both models are designed for domestic use over a large bedroom, living area -- with the 'clean air delivery rate' reaching up to 350 square feet (with the CADR scores being 248, 236 & 252 from Dust, Smoke & pollen respectively). You will also notice both models are integrated with an air quality sensor -- this acts to 'find & detect' airborne particles & their type (e.g. bacteria, odor etc.) in the air and will find the most suitable 'set & forget' setting to deal with the impurity through varying the fan speed to remove them.

Air Purifier Filters & Fitted Technology

wac5500: Carbon pre-filter & indicator | PlasmaWave technology

wac6300: Carborn pre-filter & indicator | Sanitized | PlasmaWave technology

As mentioned above, both models have a carbon pre-filter fitted to add 'freshness' to a room through capturing toxins etc. (along with shielding the main HEPA filter). They have also have a specialised indicator to let you know when this needs replacing. The WAC6300 you will notice also has a 'anti-microbial' finish to give an 'added' extra freshness aspect.

To go into a little more depth with the Winix plasmawave technology -- it basically generates both positive & negative ions that con-join with H20 (water vapor), which in turn create 'hydroxls'. It is these hydroxls which then neutralise harmful particles in the air such as viruses and chemical vapours via disrupting their molecular structure and basically creating even more water vapor.

Practical Features

wac5500:  remote control | 4 fan speeds (from ultra quiet to turbo mode) | digital display

wac6300: remote control | 4 fan speeds (from ultra quiet to turbo mode) | digital display

Each unit comes with a remote for you to alter the settings of the air purifier, where you can even set it to sleep mode -- whereby it functions on its quietest speed setting and dims the lights on the digital display.

Conclusion - Which Should You Buy the WAC5500 or WAC6300?

As you can see both models are actually very, very similar. The only real notable difference is the 'added' sanitized aspect of the filter installed with the WAC6300, giving it the edge in the air cleaning performance (that provides "superior control of household odors, pollutants and allergens") -- this is what in turn makes it slighty more expensive. In truth, however I would just simply opt for the model that is cheapest out of the two -- but if they are roughly the same price, then obviously go for the WAC6300 (you can compare the prices of the WAC5500 and WAC6300 quickly, just above).
