The World of The Witcher

The dark and grisly world of The Witcher, based on a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowki, is well renown for its exceptional storytelling. The series is the story of “Geralt of Rivia”, a Witcher. These warriors are an order of monster slayers that run more like a guild of mercenaries. They would be more than happy to rid you of your monster problem, if you have the proper coin. The game is not just another mindless monster slaying, dungeon exploring, role-playing game. The story touches on issues usually reserved for the darker side of cinema, including: human nature, racism, royalty, greed, brutality, religion, and witchcraft, just to name a few.

Geralt, having saved the northern kingdoms, fighting a dragon, rescuing his friends, and just being a generally awesome guy, isn't done yet. The Nilfgaardian Empire is marching north, burning as they go and Geralt's memory is returning. He now has a lead on his friend, Yennefer, who had saved him from certain death and was taken by the Wild Hunt.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt News

The Witcher video games are developed by Polish video game company, CD Projekt RED. Originally only available on PC, Witcher 2 and 3 are now available on console systems. For the best possible game experience, I recommend playing on PC. Otherwise you would miss out on the story of the first game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will feature the company's new REDengine 3, which is designed specifically for modern 64-bit computing[1]. This will hopefully will help CD Projekt RED do something never accomplished: excellent graphics, great storylines, and an open-world environment. Many games like Skyrim have come close, but when a game has an open-world, something is sacrificed. In Bethesda's case this is usually graphics and storytelling in exchange for large environments. The Witcher has its sights on all three. The previous entry to the franchise had graphics that pushed the boundaries of the current generation. This next installment will help next-gen graphics come out guns-blazing.

CD Projekt RED claimed in a press release that The Witcher 3 will have "a living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history". Sailboats and horses might be mandatory just to get to some objectives. The game will have a world 30 times larger than the other Witcher games and 20% larger than Skyrim[2].

Witcher is a story-based series, that focuses on choices you make throughout the game that have an effect on the ending. Choices and surviving characters carry over into the next game similar to the Mass Effect series. CD Projekt RED has stated that this will be the last entry into the Witcher franchise “Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note." It will have a 2014 release date and will release on the Windows and PS4 game systems[1]. Although it is not announced for release on Xbox, more than likely it will once they have announced their next-gen system.
