Decoupage Using Recycled Christmas Wrapping Paper

The Christmas seasons are one time of the year, other than Thanksgiving and Memorial Day, when gifts exchange hands with overwhelming regularity. After the gifts have been opened, there is now the hassle of gift wrapping paper disposing . These can cause an environmental hazard. Why not become more innovative with these papers and use them for decoupage?

This involves cutting pictures and shapes and making entirely new wrapper paper. This is an extremely fun project that can bring families and friends together in one memorable social adventure by collecting and making decoupage projects.

The word decoupage sometimes confuses some. It is really a French term which refers to the craft of cutting pictures and designing shapes and images with these cuttings. These cuttings can come from everyday mundane items that are in the pantry, garage or storage room. These are cut them glued together in different shapes and shapes.


It is not exactly known where this art originated from but it is generally agreed upon that the Chinese started using and making these shapes well before the French did. Japanese craftsmen were also noted to be very skilled when it came to decoupage designs and renderings. This can easily be deduced by their many arts and crafts in their homes, streets, publications and general society. Indeed it is hard not to see a Far Eastern event that does not have these colorful designs.

There is really no limit to where these designs can be used. Some people have taken to pasting these onto such everyday items such as plates, cups and even walls. This is a great way to make moments memorable especially if one has children. These can be glued using glue and tape and can hang on the wall and be very visual.

During the Christmas season, families and children take this opportunity to have their decoupage projects commemorate the occasion. It is therefore not uncommon to see the images depicting Santa Claus or the Jesus story in the manger. These are all ways of making good use of the wall paper. Other designs can also be made that make the moment memorable.

Before embarking on the project, it is recommended that all the items that will go into the project be assembled and make available. This makes it easy to complete the project in one sitting. Cooperation between parents and children especially when using Christmas wrapping paper is ideal and can bring the project to completion even faster.

Recently, some people have taken to adding paint to make the designs even more unique. This is a great way to add accented color to the project and make it stand out even more. Another way is to combine cartoon with real pictures and paint and then glue them together.

Once the project is complete, it should be left undisturbed until it dries and becomes set. This makes it possible for it to be transported without coming apart. It is also recommended that one take a picture of the project before moving it in case it falls apart, then the process can be repeated.
