The showcase of the immortals returns for the 26th time
While it may not be the "greatest" WrestleMania of all time as the WWE claims (much like every year), this years version of Pro-Wrestlings super card is still worth watching on name alone tonight in Phoenix.
So, without further ado, let's break down this years card.
10-Diva Tag Team Match
Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, and Beth Phoenix vs Michelle McCool, Maryse, Layla, Alicia Fox, and Vickie Guerrero
This match was just recently added to the WrestleMania card and it more than likely won't go very long. Look for Beth Phoenix to exact some revenge on Vickie Guerrero, leading her team to victory and ending the Beth/Vickie storyline.
Triple H vs Sheamus
After years of Triple H being the focal point of WrestleMania, this year he is far from World Title contention. The task this year? To wrestle one of the future stars of the WWE, Sheamus. Don't look for any feel good Triple H 'Mania moments here, the "Celtic Warrior" should go over "The Game" and complete a tremendous first year in the WWE.
Triple Threat Match
Randy Orton vs Ted DiBiase vs Cody Rhodes
This should be the end of of Legacy for good as we know it as the culmination of the feud breaks down with Randy Orton taking on both former stable mates in DiBiase and Rhodes. While this feud hasn't been overly impressive, it's a could be a real turning point for both Rhodes and DiBiase who will be looking at success on their own. Expect a break down between Rhodes and DiBiase and a Randy Orton win.
The only issues that I can for see with this feud is Cody Rhodes entering singles competition (a nightmare waiting to happened) and Randy Orton as a fan favourite.
Tag Team Title Match
ShoMiz vs John Morrison/R-Truth
I don't expect much from this match-up and hopefully no one else does either. The Miz and Big Show have been absolutely terrible as the tag team champions (which isn't entirely there fault, it's way too hard to top JeriShow, and Miz isn't exactly Chris Jericho) and the Morrison/Truth combination seem like a thrown together tag team.
I have the sneaking suspicion that Morrison and R-Truth will become the new tag team champions and inject some much needed life into a rather stale and dull tag team division. As well, I would think (hope) that the WWE is about to do something productive with Miz if they truly believe he is a future star. (My prediction would be they are giving up on him rather shortly)
Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk
If Rey loses, he must join the Straight Edge Society
This should be without a doubt the match of the night. CM Punk may be (along with Orton) the best all around wrestler in the WWE right now and look for the Straight Edge superstar to steal the show with the greatest lightweight wrestler in history. This feud has been done wonderfully (with some great video packages) and the added stipulation of Rey joining the "Society" only makes it much more appealing. Expect Punk to win and torture Rey until the next Pay Per View.
Money in the Bank Match
Christian vs Drew McIntyre vs Kofi Kingston vs Evan Bourne vs Shelton Benjamin vs Kane vs MVP vs Dolph Ziggler vs Matt Hardy vs Jack Swagger
This may be the last WrestleMania to feature the Money in the Bank match (its rumoured to be showcased on its own PPV) and I would expect it to be the excellent match it has been since it's inception.
While I would prefer Shelton Benjamin to to capture the briefcase (he's been in every Money in the Bank), it should be "Captain Charisma" Christian who captures the brief case and moves towards becoming a World Champion in the WWE.
WWE Championship Match
Batista (c) vs John Cena
While neither of these two will ever be accused of being five star technical wrestlers, the feud leading up to this match has been more interesting than expected. Batista's constant decimation of John Cena over who is really the star of WWE has been entertaining to watch and makes for an interesting real-life debate about that very topic.
Expect Cena to win and continue his trend of being the 'Champ' at WrestleMania.
Streak vs Retirement
Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker
WrestleMania rematches are usually highly anticipated and this should be no exception.
Whether you're more for the story line or for the back story, this match-up is very interesting.
Does Shawn Michaels end the Undertakers WrestleMania undefeated streak? Does the Undertaker end Shawn Michaels career?
Are both superstars walking away from the business?
Due to the fact that the Undertakers streak is held in such high regard in WWE and Shawn Michaels (as well as 'Taker) has taken hiatus' following past WrestleManias, I would suspect that Undertaker 'ends' Shawn Michaels career on this night. Of course, wrestling retirements don't last so I see no other option other than Michaels losing.
Besides, the streak story line wouldn't benefit anyone other than a younger superstar and Michaels is well established in the company.
13 years in the making (No Holds Barred)
Bret "Hitman" Hart vs Mr. McMahon
One of the most anticipated returns in wrestling history will culminate at WrestleMania as Bret Hart returns to face Mr. McMahon in a No Holds Barred match.
Many pundits are quick to point out that given Hart's past health problems and McMahon's age that this match shouldn't be given high expectations. I would disagree, however.
Given the fact that both Hart and McMahon are highly intelligent when it comes to in-ring story telling, this match should feature some entertaining moments. Since the match has no rules, expect plenty of weapons, some run-ins, and something unexpected. It would make no other sense than to have Bret win this match and complete the story line that has stemmed from 13 years of real, genuine bad feelings between the two men.
World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Jericho (c) vs Edge
Many were expecting this feud for quite some time and it will finally happen.
However, the feud has been a bit disappointing from the outset. Firstly, Edge's injury is hindering him in the ring and secondly he hasn't been able to get the traction from the fans as a fan favourite. Edge's past character as a womanizer (which stemmed from a real life issue with Matt Hardy/Lita) as well as a controversial angle with Vicki Guerrero, (the wife of fallen wrestler Eddie Guerrero) has severely damaged him to the point where he can't get the fans cheering for him.
So, essentially you have two wrestlers who are heels (bad guys) to the fans wrestling in possibly the main event at WrestleMania. Unless Jericho can pull a miracle out of his hat and carry this match, it looks like a train wreck waiting to happen. Expect Edge to win the title and hopefully move the fans in his favour.
