WrestleMania 29 - The Showcase of the Immortals
It's that time of year again boys and girls. Time for WrestleMania! WrestleMania takes place on April 7th at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey and is a stacked card.
Please keep in mind that these are strictly the opinion of the writer and should not be taken to heart.
So without further ado, here the predictions:
InterContinental Champion Wade Barrett vs The Miz (Interactive Pre-Show Match)
With not a lot of steam going into this match for either participant, it's a good thing this is a 'pre-show' match. The Miz may have proven his naysayers right who were against his WrestleMania Main Event from two years ago as he is not on the main card this year and using Ric Flair's finishing move to try an generate buzz. His opponent has not fared better this year, as Barrett has lost a lot of steam after his return earlier this year. Expect Barrett to retain and continue his "barrage".
Winner: Wade Barrett
Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls vs Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins
This is more of a filler match than anything for WrestleMania and really hard to create a write-up about. Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins should come out on top of this fiasco.
Winner: Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins
Chris Jericho vs Fandango
This is probably the most surprising match to make it onto WrestleMania this year. Many fans laughed at the thought of a "Ballroom Dance" character such as Fandango, but in his short time on television he has created a lot of "heat" within the WWE Universe. (In all seriousness, Fandango was an excellent wrestler as Johnny Curtis on NXT) Jericho is the perfect opponent for him to début against as Jericho is one of the most successful and greatest "in-ring" performers in the history of the WWE. Expect Fandango to win his début match against Jericho in a potential show stealing match.
WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No vs Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston
While Team Hell No has generated interest in the Tag Team Championships during their run, one would expect them to lose in the near future and this may be the night. Dolph Ziggler is destined to be a World Champion, but it's time to showcase Big E Langston and establish himself as the "monster" he has been projected to be. Expect Ziggler and Langston to win the titles with Langston going over very strong for the win.
Winner: New Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langson
Ryback vs Mark Henry
This is a traditional "big man" match, which can mean one of two things. Either some very impressive will happen, or this will be ugly. Expect this match to be one of the shorter matches on the card and for Ryback to lift Mark Henry up for the "Shell Shocked".
Randy Orton, Sheamus, and Big Show vs The Shield
The Shield have continued to roll through the competition and this match should be no different. The one thing that should be expected is that while the Shield will more than likely win this match, it may be do to the dysfunction of the losing team. Expect either Randy Orton or Sheamus to cost their team the victory and go on to a new found "heel" status.
Winner: The Shield
World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs Jack Swagger
Although the WWE has tried to make Alberto Del Rio one of the biggest fan favourites in the WWE, it has been a very tough road for the "Mexican Aristocrat". Putting him up against Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter has proven difficult as Zeb Colter has always been one of the premier promo men in professional wrestling and has garnered more attention for the "Real American" storyline than for the "foreign success" story that Del Rio is portraying. Normally it would be a given that Jack Swagger comes out the winner with Zeb Colter assisting, but due to Swaggers arrest, expect his punishment to be not appearing on television shortly after his loss at WrestleMania 29.
Winner: Alberto Del Rio
Bonus prediction: Expect Dolph Ziggler to case in his Money in the Bank Contract shortly after this match and become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Winner: New World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler
Triple H vs Brock Lesnar (No Holds Barred Match; if Lesnar wins, Triple H must retire)
Their last match at SummerSlam resulted in Triple H walking away defeated with an apparent broken arm. Now the stipulations have Triple H retiring if he is unable to beat Brock Lesnar. Expect this match to be hard hitting with no rules being intact, but it would be hard to fathom Triple H retiring. Expect Triple H to somehow win this match, but to be dismantled and destroyed by Lesnar during and after the bell sounds. There is also the possibility of his "best" friend betraying him during this match.
Winner: Triple H
The Undertaker vs CM Punk
CM Punk had carried the WWE on his back for the past year and a half prior to his loss at the Royal Rumble in January, but he is now in a transition stage without being the WWE Champion. This match could be a staple of his career as it is for The Undertakers WrestleMania streak that now stands at 20-0. The Undertaker has not been in a match since last years WrestleMania when he defeated Triple H inside of the Hell in a Cell. This year, with the passing of Paul Bearer being introduced into the storyline and CM Punk's taunting of the 'urn' and tarnishing of the memory of Paul Bearer, the feud is much more personal from a fans perspective, but a little uneasy to watch at times. All things considered, this should be the match of the night. Expect Punk to come very close to ending the streak, but losing out in the end as the "Streak stays intact".
Winner: The Undertaker
WWE Champion The Rock vs John Cena
In a rematch from WrestleMania 28, The Rock and John Cena reunite again with the WWE Championship on the line. While this match does not have nearly as much steam as last years encounter, it should still generate enough interest for the live crowd to get into it. The Rock had won last years meeting, so one should expect John Cena to avenge that loss and collect the WWE Championship in the process. It may be difficult to top what they were able to do last year, but one can hope they do something unique to have fans remember this rematch for years to come.
Winner John Cena
