Will the Sony Ericcson Xperia Play Rival Both the Android and the Nintendo DS?
When Sony unveiled the original PSP gamers all over the world rejoiced. It was the first hand held gaming device that featured graphics as vivid and true to life as the ones featured in titles such as 'Final Fantasy Tactics' and 'Socom Fireteam Bravo.' Although Sony has yet to announce an official release date for the PSP2 they have given fans a sneak peak at the Xperia Play, a mobile phone that promises to combine the very best of mobile gaming with the technologies that smart phone owners have come to expect and love. The flip phones comes loaded with the Google Android 2.3, also known as 'Gingerbread.'
Besides gaming, the Sony Ericcson Xperia Play owners will be able to snap photos on it's 5 mega pixal built-in camera and talk for nearly 8 ½ hours between charges. The smart phone comes in black or white and it weighs around 175 grams. It comes with USB port and users will have the ability to surf the web at hotspots and via the same WiFi technology that the PSP uses. Running the 1 GHz Scorpion ARMv7 processor, the Xperia Play can save up to 32 GB of data.
If the specs aren't doing anything for you then you might be impressed with Sony's plans to release more than 50 games for the hand held electronic. What sets the Xperia Play apart from any other hand held game console or smart phone are the built-in control buttons. This means that you will be able to use real analog controls, the traditional ABCD keys and even press pause while you enjoy your favorite games. Mimicking the PSP as well as the controller used with the Play Station 3, the Xperia Play's touchscreen slides up and out of the way so that gamers can enjoy their favorite titles completely uninhibited. When users are ready to make a phone call or get on the Internet the Xperia Play slides shut in one smooth motion.
You will be able to execute the same tasks that you would on the iPhone, Android or Blackberry such as accessing Facebook, instant messaging and downloading music. The 'Zeus' comes with built-in stereo speakers loud enough for those next to you to enjoy (or loathe) your favorite tunes right along with you. There's also a 3.5 MM jack for you to insert your headphones if you prefer to game in private.
The phone comes with titles like 'The Sims 3' and 'Asphalt Adrenaline 6' preloaded along with four other games. Sony plans to make approximately 50 new and classic titles available at launch, and if all goes well gamers can count on many more being released in the future. So you might be wondering when you will be able to get your hands on the Xperia Play, but unfortunately, Sony is being pretty tight lipped. The only information that the company will give is that the next generation gaming smart phone will be available some time in March of 2011.
The price for this incredible electronic? Sony isn't too sure about that either. It's safe to say that it will be priced in line with other popular smart phones, so you might have to save up if you are living on a budget. All in all, the Sony Ericcson Xperia Play looks like it's going to be a total hit across all demographics but we'll all have to wait and see.
