Every October we start looking around at old buildings and in some cases new buildings to scare ourselves silly. I love the idea of old haunted houses and forts and such. To stand back and look at a building and wonder could there be someone or something in their that shouldn't even exist. Your heart starts pounding and you get this adrenaline rush. Then you start heading for the inside and the unknown, what will happen next if anything.

That is how I felt the first time I looked at Old Fort Niagara. I stood in the parking lot and wondered was anything or anybody there. Early evening and I'm staring towards the walls of this very old fort. All I could see were the rolling hills and the cold concrete beneath my shoes. I was determined to go with the flow of the evening and no matter what have a great time. The anticipation is building as I'm waiting for the crowd to gather together to go in Old Fort Niagara.

The Lighthouse

I look towards the old lighthouse and I wonder who walked there and what could have happened. My imagination takes off and I see a broken love affair and the woman in a long flowing dress running towards the lighthouse and running in. When she runs up the stairs and trips on her dress and falls down the stairs. Is this our first ghost? Or maybe a soldier at the top of the stairs of the lighthouse looks out towards Canada and sees something horriffing and starts running down the stairs and falls and breaks his neck. Now I'm standing in front of the lighthouse! whats that sound? Is that just a shadow off to the side? I can feel the night closing in on all of us.

I can just picture this ghost coming from around your tree or bush or even the house. If you keep the ghost towards the shadows of your lawn I'm sure it will scare friends and family. Have fun with the ghost!

The Cemetery

I walk towards the cemetery and I can feel shivers running up and down my spine. Looking at those old tombstones and I wonder how did these people die and who were they? Did they die from an illness or were they shot was there an accident? Questions are running through my mind and I'm trying to be logical about this. I'm reminding myself that I'm at and old fort so I know some of the graves belong to people that died horrible deaths and they always say that those people have a hard time moving on. These are the ones that could be still here in this cemetery Do I feel something horrifying next to me or is it just my imagination. The closing in of the night brings back memories of sitting around as kids telling ghost stories trying to scare everybody. After all these years I think it is starting to work because all of those stories are coming back with a vengeance. I look around and of course nobody else happens to be here with me and I realize that I'm alone in a cemetery at night. I think it is time to walk back towards everybody else and let my heart rate get back to normal. Are you going to join me at the cemetery at night in October?

You can make your own cemetery to bring shivers to friends and family that come by. Or maybe just innocent people walking down your sidewalk.

The Shadow

I walk back towards the Fort and I decide to take some pictures and I could have sworn I saw something move. It was up on the hill I saw the moving shadow out of the corner of my eye. I know I did. I thought I captured it in the picture but now I don't see it. When I asked my sister she of course didn't see anything. While I'm standing here looking I can just picture the Guards coming down the hill as they make their rounds. It's a cold night and these poor guards have to walk the perimeter of the Fort. Do they do it in two hour shifts or four hour shifts? Either way with all these hills it must be very tiring for them. Uck guard duty!

Old Fort Niagara

I'm not going to take pictures of everything that I saw and we did so that I don't ruin the fun for everybody else. I will say that I heard a lot of screaming and laughter. Fun was had by all the guests and who knows maybe a few ghosts also enjoyed the night.

My time here is over and I had a great time. Old Fort Niagara at Halloween is a lot of fun. Keep in mind that you need to keep an open mind and go with the flow. Everybody at Old Fort Niagara is there to entertain and educate all the guests. Just make sure when you leave you don't leave with anybody extra! This is one place that next Halloween I will visit again and maybe I will see you at Old Fort Niagara.

I hope this isn't someone that I brought home from Old Fort Niagara. Maybe you brought him home to catch family and friends off guard. He looks like something I saw at the Fort I just hope that I left him there.

I'm from the Buffalo area and have visited Fort Niagara many times in the past. Are you from that locale?
