Learn The Facts About Affiliate Marketing

Out of all of the legitimate opportunities I have found to make money online during my four year history as an internet marketer, I prefer affiliate marketing above all.  It is a powerful tool that gives a legitimate opportunity to anyone who has a passion for a product or service, and a desire to share that passion.

Other opportunities to make money online, such as building a profitable website, monetizing YouTube videos, becoming a partner on YouTube, marketing certain multi-level marketing businesses online, and writing articles on revenue sharing sites, are all legitimate ways to earn money on the Internet.  However, I am most impressed with the results I get with affiliate marketing, and so are thousands of other people. You might find that you are just as impressed.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the process of referring people to a company’s products or services.  In return for the referral you have made, the company will turn around and pay you a commission.  Depending on the terms of the affiliate program you have joined, you could be paid on the initial referral only, or you could be paid on a continual basis - of course, this is only if the product or service offers some type of subscription option.

Most affiliate programs set their pay out dates for once a month, but there are some programs that make bi-monthly payments.  Some programs pay via direct deposit into the bank account of your choice, most programs send payments to your Paypal account, and there are a few companies that still send out paper checks.

What is the Cost to Join?

Affiliate marketing programs do not, and should not cost you anything to join.  If you happen upon a program that charges a fee for you to join, first you need to make absolutely certain that you are both referring to the actual affiliate program.  If that is the case, you should run, not walk but run, in the opposite direction.  No legitimate company would ever ask someone to pay a fee to promote that company’s products or services.

How to Hook Up with a Good Program

The best way to find a reputable affiliate marketing program is to use a website that is specifically designed to link interested people with affiliate programs that will fit their niche.  Some of the heavy hitters in this arena are Commission Junction, Clickbank, and Linkshare.

Alternatively, if there is a product or service that you feel might be of value to someone else, you should scour their website to find out if they offer any type of referral program.  If the info is not readily available, you can always send an email to the company or pick up the phone and call them.

How Does It Work?

Once you have joined an affiliate marketing program, you will be given a link, a bank of links to chose from, and/or banners.  You will use the in-text links in articles on your own website (a website is nothing but a collection of articles based around one specific niche), on revenue sharing sites such as the one you are reading right now, and in article marketing campaigns. You will use the banners on your website, blog or anywhere else where you are able to post a banner.

How to Become a Successful Affiliate Marketer

One of the pitfalls of affiliate marketing is the fact that most programs do not require the marketer to actually use the program.  Therefore, there are thousands of people out there who recommend products to others that they have never used themselves. It sounds crazy doesn’t it?

As an affiliate marketer, your word is the principal tool for you to be able to make money online. If you smear your reputation by recommending useless products and services, and money wasting junk, your word will be good for nothing.

The best way to become a successful affiliate marketer is to follow one simple rule.  Never, ever, recommend products to others that you have not tried and tested yourself.  This way, your reputation stays clear, and people will trust your advice.
