How to Find the Best Beer Brewing Kits
by lordkhomar
If you're like me and truly enjoy a great mug of beer then why are you still drinking that terrible, mass produced flavorless swill touted as 'hand crafted'. The right beer brewing kits are easy to find when you know what to look for and, home beer tastes better and costs less. Look for these components when your looking for your first beer brewing kits.
All beer brewing kits should have a fermenter
To make home beer it has to be fermented. The best beer brewing kits will contain the following..
- A primary fermenter. Most all beer brewing kits will have a 6 gallon plastic bucket.
- A secondary fermenter, some of these use a 5 gallon bucket, the best beer brewing kits will have a 6 gallon glass 'bottle'
- An airlock. This is used to prevent 'nasties' from entering your home beer during the fermentation process
- Some form of tubing. All beer brewing kits use flexible plastic tubing.
The above items are, without exception the most basic components of all beer brewing kits. Some, such as the Mr Beer, will use just one fermenter. This is ok for that particular system.
Additional accessories in beer brewing kits
Some additional things to look for in good quality beer brewing kits are..
Some form of bottling system, this is almost standard equipment in top quality beer brewing kits, starter beer brewing kits may not have this.
A specific gravity tester. Again, the best beer brewing kits will have this. The specific gravity tester will give you an idea of the final alcohol content of your home beer.
You'll also need a large pot to make your wort. No beer brewing kits include this that I know of.
What if I'm unsure about making home beer?
Well, I'd suggest you try the Mr Beer beer brewing kits, they are quite inexpensive and make a nice home beer. If you like it, you can buy the additional beer making supplies individually.
