Have you ever tried to paint a bedroom in your home and wondered exactly how to go about it? Sometimes knowing what to buy and what to do can be confusing. Here are some tips on how to make it easy.

First thing to do is buy your paint. For an average sized room two gallons should be plenty, but if you are doing a larger living room
or kitchen you may want to buy a couple more. Plus, it never hurts to have extra for when you want to do touch ups.
After buying your paint also buy some Painters Tape. It's just like masking tape but blue and is used to tape off sections that you don't want painted. Examples: window panes, door frames, closets, anything like that. The most important thing to remember is to take the tape off immediately after painting! If you don't and the paint dries with the tape on then when you do take the tape off it will peel the dry paint off with it! Make sure you do not let this happen.
Next put down the plastic drop cloth. Make sure to cover any items in the room that you do not want paint to get on. Also cover the floor, and if you have ceiling fans do those too. Anything you don't cover has the potential to get paint accidentally splattered on it.
Lastly start painting! Pour some paint into a paint tray and get those rollers ready! When using the rollers make sure to roll evenly. You don't want to have lines on your walls when you are done. Make sure you also back roll. That means flipping your roller over and rolling from the other side. This will help you use all the paint on your roller.
In closing I would just like to say that it is important to take your time. Do not rush because that is when mistakes are made! Just take your time, and enjoy.
Clear your room out as much as possible.
If you have other paint on your walls already or maybe marks from pens that are a dark color make sure to buy some primer to paint over that first.
Take all outlet covers and light switch covers off the wall so they don't get paint on them.
Use your paint brush to "cut in" around areas that the roller can not reach or do easily.
Make sure you have plenty of light!
Have a drop cloth in your hallway too so when you walk out of the room you don't track paint onto your carpet from your feet.
Paint smells, have good ventilation.
