Turkey Taco Recipe

by KooKoo Since weight problems are on the rise, it is time to seek out healthy alternative to our normal favorite foods.  One of my favorite foods is tacos.  Tacos typically contain ground beef which can be high in saturated fats and the taco seasoning that comes in many taco packages can be very high in sodium.  This turkey taco recipe is a lower calorie, lower fat, lower sodium version of your traditional beef tacos, only replacing the beef with turkey.

Ingredients
Preparation:
The first thing we are going to do, is make our low sodium taco seasoning.

Stir the chili powder, cumin and oregano together in a bowl.

Next, in a nonstick frying pan pre-heated to a medium heat, mix in your ground turkey and your onions.  Cook until all the turkey has been browned and your onions have become translucent. Then drain the excess fat.

Finally, mix the low sodium taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin and oregano) in with the turkey and onions until the mixture is evenly distributed amongst the meat and onions.

Serving:
Measure 1/4 cup of the turkey mixture into each of the four tortillas.  Top each taco with 1 tablespoon of cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of shredded lettuce, 1/4 cup of diced tomatoes and 2 tablespoons of salsa.

Fold the tortilla so it is in the shape of a taco and serve each person 2 tacos.
