Willem de Kooning's Woman I, 1950-2. Why is it Art?

As an art historian I often get asked: "what is art?" My answer is: anything can be art if someone says its art and the person listening agrees or just accepts the speaker's opinion. Instead of attempting to answer the broad question "what is art?" this article shows how one painting, Willem de Kooning's Woman I, 1950-2, many find ugly and incomprehensible came to be valued more than a million dollar and a highlight of one of the world's most respected museums.

Kinky Boots: Favorite Movies I Recommend

PG-13 Film is Appealing and Not Kinky! If you enjoy feel-good movies, like I do, then consider renting or buying this fantastic film. This movie is based on a true story. Charmed by the trailer for Kinky Boots, I later saw the film. It has since become one of my favorite movies, mostly due to the charismatic lead, Chewitel Ejiofer. Chewitel Ejiofer is a British actor worth taking watching. He delivers a terrific performance in this film. Kinky Boots also stars British actors Joel Edgerton, Sarah-Jane Potts and Nick Frost. Each of these actors is also perfect in their respective roles. Kinky Boots was released in 2005 in theaters and was chosen as the opening night film for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
